Pen Semen

I had Uncle Pen collected in 2003 and have stored the semen for 13 years now. We have 3 breedings. I sent 1 breeding down to Indiana and it looks as though that female is going to have a few pups. When collected the semen thawed at a pretty good percentage but is not as good when last thawed so I am considering making a cross with Creek as she started bleeding the Monday after the reunion. Not sure yet what I am going to do??

It's good to be in your shoes Scott and have the fine hounds you have but then the tough choice, Banjo or Uncle Pen? I'm still in for a female pup no matter which way you go, tough choice but either one will be a Top Choice. Good Luck with wrestling that decision and keep me on the list.

Looks like a lot of top dogs in that pedigree. I never had the pleasure of hunting with Uncle Pen or anything out of him, but I know If you owned, hunted and liked him that would be enough for me. Good luck on what ever you decide to breed Creek too. I know there will be some good ones. Are you commin to Bluetick Days.

Seems to be a lot of interest if this happens. We are still checking to see if we can get fresh chilled semen from the vet in Arkansas on Banjo.

Both would be fine choices..At first I thought, just breed her to banjo, he's right there and it would be cheaper n easier....but since banjo is in Arkansas, and you would have the added expense of collection, shipping, etc anyway, I would go with pen

Creek is young and you can always breed her to banjo semen down the road....if banjo was there at your house I'd say the opposite( creek is young, live breed her to banjo and you can always breed her to pen semen down the road)..

Scott, I'm sure you've already considered everything I just wrote and I'm sure there would be good pups either way you went. Good luck

Thanks for the Picture. To the best of my recollection that was in Portland, Indiana and I had either 725 or 750 with Pen that night. Seems like a long time ago but it was just 11 years.

Was that 11 years ago already Scott? I didn't think I was looking much older now than I used to but looking at myself in that picture with you maybe I do!!! Can't remember for sure but Portland might sound right. Didn't I win something that weekend also with another one of our dogs, Faith maybe? All that sleep I missed out on a good portion of my life seems to have made my memory pretty foggy!

Based on the progestrone tests we have been getting done this week I will need to try and breed Creek today. I will try and get her bred to Logan. When I bought her that was the initial thought as to the first cross on her anyway so that is what is going to happen. Thanks for all of the Posts, PM's, Calls and Texts on the Pen/Creek Cross and the interest on it. That may get done down the road but not this time.
