-- Contested Convention. (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928446093)

Contested Convention.

Lets hear your thoughts, since it's a possibility.

Lets say NOBODY gets to the required 1237 delegates.

I am not against a contested convention. That's the way the rules are already set up if nobody reaches the required delegates, votes are used to try and settle it.

What I am against is a brokered convention. If it comes down to Trump and Cruz, it needs to be settled between those 2.

A brokered convention the establishment will sweep in and PICK their nominee, and it would likely be neither Trump or Cruz.

We don't live in a banana republic where our leaders are appointed, they are elected.

I think if the RNC over throws Trump or Cruz, which ever may be in the lead, that would be a bad thing. I think it would make the voters want either candidate even more strongly.

Probably what it's gonna take GA DAWG but getting enough people to stand together to overthrow the useless government will be the largest problem.

Yep, that's how I feel. As anyone can tell by now I am NOT a Trump supporter, however if he gets to the 1237 delegates, nobody better steal it from him, I might not vote for him, but he got the votes to get the nomination.

If however nobody gets to 1237, then go ahead and vote it out between the leading candidates the way the rules are written.

They keep changing the rules.... At one time it may have been between the leaders, but they changed it to anyone (running) who had at least 10% of the vote. Now they are talking about making it, anyone who has at least 1 delegate. If nobody gets on the 1st vote, it is an open convention. If they do that, it will be very bad!

But doesn't a candidate need to have won in 8 states to be eligible? Maybe it's not worded that way, something about a candidate needing to have won 8 states to qualify on the floor as a viable option when delegates are pledged.

I don't know, it's confusing. But Cruz has 7, he will likely easily get over the 8. Can't see Rubio or Kasich getting there.

If Trump does get it and you still want vote for him. Thats a vote for hillary.

Brokered Convention

The only reason Rubio and Kasich are still in, is that they are hoping for a brokered convention. Neither will win the peoples vote. Rubio = Establishment Choice. Kasich = Compromise Choice. Neither is a good idea! And, I like Kasich.

The establishment is trying hard to defeat Trump (#1), but they don't like Cruz (#2) either. Usually, the party establishment is able to control the vote. It's not happening this time (so far).

That said, the Democratic establishment may be even more corrupt. They are all in for Hillary, despite the fact that she is a proven liar. Have you watched her??? When she blatantly lies in a debate, Bernie just says "WHOA", or raises his hand! Can you imagine what Trump would do to her???

I've always believed that the Republican party establishment and Democratic Party establishment are like two crime families.

We need of, by, and for the people. Not, of, by and for the establishment!!!

No a vote for Hillary is a vote for Hillary.

If Trump gets the nomination and gets crushed by Hillary, it wont be because of a lowly individual sitting in PA.

He's performing worse than Romney was among women, young voters, and is about the same number as Romney among independents. Among blacks and latino's he will get crushed.

He's only beat Hillary in a head to head in 2 out of the last 23 polls. If Trump loses to Hillary, it's Trumps fault for throwing firebombs across the country, not mine.

This guys comment on a recent link posted showing some of Trumps numbers, sums it up best.

"In a year when Democrats are on the verge of nominating the nauseating Hillary Clinton for president, Republicans are going to counter with the only guy in the entire country with unfavorables even uglier than hers.

Most people wouldn't think it was possible for someone to have higher negatives than Clinton, but the Republicans have managed to find that very guy.

Sounds about right for the party that never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity ..."

Maybe in a contested convention and not even in contested if they change the rules again! A brokered convention they can put up anybody they want.... That's why Romeny has popped back on the scene. He thought his performance would help put him in the running, but I think that one blew up in his face..

If Trump and Clinton get the nominations.
Clinton - Morally challenged known liar who wants to take our guns.
Trump - Morally challenged successful business man than will benefit from the things he is wanting to put back in place in our Great nation.
Trump worries me but he should be much better than what is in office now. If you stay home and don't vote then don't complain.

That's the way I understand it. They also have to get to 1237. There's 2472 total delegates, so 1237 is half plus 1, thus a majority. Not just some random number as Trump stated.

It's becoming increasingly harder for any of them to get to that number and have the majority, not impossible, but certainly not easy. Some type of contested convention is likely.

I bet hillary gets hers. If these loosers wpuld pull out like on normal yrs. Trump would get his. They will spend billions backing these other morons so they force a contested convention. Bunch of bull is what that is.I may stop paying them. Id like to say your FIRED.

I don't think they're spending anything to back Cruz, if so they would've done it already. He's more outsider than Trump in my opinion. He's already been in with the bulls and stood up to them. The other 2, they're probably negotiating as we speak.

Nobody should drop out as long as their being competitive and have a shot at it. Usually the natural laws of selection force other candidates out as the leader gathers more and more steam. Votes force other candidates out. That's Trumps fault that hasn't happened yet, not the candidates. As Jeb Bush already proved, establishment money doesn't mean much of anything this time.

Last time when it got down to 3, NOBODY pulled out, they were forced out by votes. Both Santorum and Gingrich became non competitive. Santorum still had funds left when he quit, Gingrich's funds had dried up.
