Artificial insemination

Hey does anyone have a clue how much it cost and a vet that does it near eastern North Carolina? Have an old dog I would really like pups off of but he doesn't have much interest in wanting to breed.

I expect he is sterile if he doesn't have any lead in the pencil, I would check that first if it were me.

The link below might be of help to find your answer.

i thought my 13 year old stud was washed up for breeding ,but he just knew the female wasnt quite ready by smell.when she peaked so did his interest resulting in a healthy litter.that may or may not be your problem, but nature usually pulls through.

Heck Joe I thought he was older than that, one of the best dogs I ever owned wouldn't pay no mind to a dog in heat. Only thing that ever made him half way run out was a dead bear, craziest thing I ever seen. I only got to breed him once before he died, and that was around 8 or 9.

I got one now pushing that envelope and he pays no mind to a female in heat if hunting, I have never bred to him either.

Good luck with it, doen't seem that hard thou, I have never seen it done, but before the 1st dog mentioned died I you tubed it or googled it and looks pretty simple. I think I even read on one of the forms or posts that Steve Marrow posted (Majestic tree hound on here) described it or it may have been on his you tube post. Might be worth looking up, I think for a vet to do it, it becomes spendy. Best I remember it is good to have the female checked daily to see when she is at peek. Or like korndog said put them together in a pen, never worked for my male thou, he just had hunting on his mind. I sure sure miss that dog.

Again good luck and maybe the price isn't that bad?

dog with no interest

Check with your vet see if you can get him a testosterone shot.Tried it with 2 different dos that worked.Sometimes takes a day or 2 to work.Get the shot after bitch's bleeding starts about 2 days. After you do this once it seems like a dog then knows what to do when he has a chance.
