Dahoneys Boone??

how good was he? what were his best traits and what faults did he have? And also how good was Yadkin Tar Rattler? best traits and faults?

Posted by yadkintar on 02-26-2016 12:52 AM:

Both their reproducing records speak for themselves!

Posted by HOBO on 02-26-2016 03:23 AM:

Boone's best trait that he passed on would have to be the brains he passed on to his offspring.

I was just curious because I don't hear much about people talking about boone blood. Is there still any out there? Or is just so mixed in with other lines that his traits are gone. And the pups I just got have quite a bit rattler in them. And Sackett blood.

Boone stud

I've got a buddy named Ryan from east tn, has a real nice male that's like a grandson of Boone I think. He's as old stock, consistent, accurate real coon dog as I've ever seen. This dog works a track like no other. He has made me a believer in Dehoneys Boone.

Mike bred raised and trained them for over 40 years.. You'd think guys could get his name right. DOHONEY

I have about as much Dohoney's Boone blood that you can get until Mike breaks out some of his Boone semen.

Yes you are right. Was he a big dog? And does anybody remember what kind of mouth he had?

Lost a good one last spring to old age. She was by Swamp and out of a Dohoneys Boone female. She was a nice one. Independent, accurate, hard hunting and a tree dog. I won a bunch of casts with her sitting under a coon alone while the other three blow the top out of a slick. Also had some of the best kennel manners of any dog I ever owned. Never barked and would **** in one pile at the end of her run and would never step in it. You could literally clean her pen once a week if you wanted to. I sure miss her. I'm hunting an Xbred daughter of her's and she sure reminds me of her momma.

I hunted a couple real good ones heavy in Dohoney blood years ago, real nice hounds for the type places I hunt, and about anywhere really.

The ones we had hunted good, wouldn't pass one up, real good nose, excellent mouth, and real lookers to boot.

And, I've watched closely throughout the years and HOBO does have the heaviest concentration as anyone I've followed.

Thank you all for your responses. It has helped me out.

What I've seen about them over the years, they are some of the smartest hounds you will see, they aim to please their owners, given the chance they tend to start early, they love to split tree but aren't so jealous that they won't tree with other dogs, they have a good nose and the brains to use it, they are bawl mouth on most cold tracks, they tend to chop on hot tracks, most of them have a locate that anyone could call, most of them have loud mouths, maybe not the type of mouth that drowns everything else out but you can hear them a good ways off. IF you hunt them alone or with a broke dog when they are young you tend not to have much trash problems.

Boone was a much better reproducer than he was a coondog. His mouth was pretty fair but not outstanding. The nights I hunted with him, he hunted well but it didn't take long to get struck so I can't say how far he would go. He seemed to have produced pups that were better than he was though!
