What age?

What would you say the average age of a hound that is kept in good shape would be when you start to notice they are on the back side of their game? How old do most folks hunt them?

Depends. I've seen 6 year olds worn out and a 14 year old that would hunt you to death night after night. Sorry for the politician answer.

its like Jeff Prince said it could be just about any age , if a hound as been hunted hard and a lot it could feel and look as old as a 14 year old when he was 7 years old , 2 years ago i hunted a 12 year old female about 4 nights a week and she hunt as young as most 4 or 5 year olds ..

I think your asking when some of their attributes start to decline. I would say 6 not they still weren't a better dog then what they're up against. I think they lose speed on hot tracks around this age but don't get me wrong they can still kick young dogs but on cold track any day of the week.

The best coondog I ever owned was in her prime from 7 years old to 9 years old.

Most are in there prime around 5 to 7. When they start to slow down has a lot to do with how much desire they have and how they are built.

My old Howler female died when she was 10. She would go with the best of them until the day she died but she had slowed down and was bad sore the next day or two. She was the worst built dog you have ever seen. I mean flat footed, swayed backed, no muscle tone but all hart.

Betty was out of Howler and had everything she had except Betty was built well. She died at the same age but had no problem getting around.
