taking boy scouts coon hunting
The boy scout's have a pruty nice camp here in the area, I've talked to the care taker and he gave permission to run the hounds there, I think I'll offer to take the scouts on a hunt. Has anyone else did this?
Our club did a similar hunt. The local school asked us to put together a show and hunt. We discussed the different breeds and had a dog for each breed. Let them ask questions about the different breeds and such. Then we took the kids that wanted to go out for a hunt. Some seemed to enjoy it while others didn't care for it. I'd recommend that if you do it at the camp where there's a big group, only take one troop/pack at a time.
that would be a nice thing ta do maybe get some youngsters into the sport
My hunting buddy,Eddie Muse, and I have taken lots of church groups hunting. From a handfull of kids to about 50 kids and adults one night. Always a blast!! When taking kids and non hunters out, make sure the hunting is pretty easy and don't keep them out long, maybe 2 trees. Also, shooting coons should be discussed beforehand with the parents. We once to a group of professional photographers from all over the US on a hunt. They were used to models and rock stars, etc. They asked more questions than anyone we ever took hunting. Jr.Steelman
Good point, no guns allowed on the camp grounds, trails through out and a lot of coon sign so it would a good place to take em
You have to check and make sure who owns the lands and buildings on some of the places such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and Lions Club and such, I have got in a boat load of trouble twice for hunting on as they said State run and School owned grounds no hunting or guns on property and not with in 1000 yards on adjacent property and Lions Club and others like them have what they call a Private Treaty Law and who ever is in charge can have you charged with just about anything they want to, the bad thing was i had written permission to hunt both times.
