confused 20mnth old

Guys i have a 20month old that can flat out get it done on the track but is getting hung up on the tree. His light switch turned on about 2 months ago and he has improved so much as far as striking and running but cant figure out the tree. When the track runs out he makes about a 30 yard circle for about 10 mins trying to figure it out but gives up every time. Any suggestions on how to get him treeing. He does ok with the old dogs but is lost when he is by himself. Do yall think i should just keep hunting him and hope he figures it out?

If he's 20 months old and can't figure out when a coon goes up I'd cut y losses and move one.

If you want to keep hunting just keep hunting him. He will either figure it out or he wont. There is no trick that will help other than time in the woods

Yep. In the end a tree dog with enough smarts and instinct will tree. Hunt him until you know 1 way or the other.

I had a female that I didn't mess with till she was two, one of the first nights I took her she was fooling with a track but not opening on it. Pride finally hit the track she was messing with and treed it, she was at the tree with him. The second night I hunted her she opened before Pride and was at the tree treeing some. I sent her to Ohio and my buddy had her running and treeing on a couple of weeks.

If its in them they will do it in short time.

We only have a couple weeks left of kill season. He has only had 4 coons shot out to him. If He hasnt started treeing by the end of kill season he just might end up looking for a home

There is a video of him when he is on. With the green collar

if the switch just flipped 2 months ago you need to give him time , keep him in the woods hunting him as much as you can and kill season is not going to make or break him just keep running him if it is legal after the season goes out , if he is going to make a tree dog he will show you with enough time and hunting and he needs to figure it out on his own and if it was me if i did take him out with older dogs i would mix it up about 80% alone 20% with older dogs ..

I figured out a long time ago if you got a decent started hound no matter the age if you put 30 to 40 nights on him hard hunting they will come around they all may not make the kind u like but some will I have made some nice dogs that guys give up on but it really takes hard hunting.

I only get to hunt 2 nights a week. Man it would be nice if i could pour the coals to him 5 or 6 nights a week.
