Score this
I love these topics.
It reminds me of politics and religion.... EVERYONE SEEMS TO HAVE DIFFERING OPINIONS.
Maybe that's why a lot of guys talk about being cheated.... Because the rule didn't go the way they interpreted it.
Or,maybe that's why some people get labeled cheats is because they understand the correct interpretation.
I truly enjoy reading these post to see how many experts can answer a scoring situation opposite ways, then spend countless post on justifying their reasoning.
If I ever need a lawyer,I gonna hire a competition coon hunter. LOL

I know what you are saying ukc should have to hold a rules seminar consisting of their rules committee every year and make it mandatory that the president from each club attend with a few members and go over a lot of different scinarios it would really help I have won and lost some that didn't seem right but were by the rules
.
High Ridge I understand and respect what your are saying but I personally dislike rule questions, but I would put them in two categories.
1. Just taking a rule and trying to understand it better. These are not bad and I think we should have more of them on here.
2. Someone comes in from a hunt and feels they were not treated fairly and states what happened. You get several post on here stating how it should have been scored. Then in a couple days someone comes on here that was there and changes the original question or view on the subject. Then the guy that wrote it comes on here and changes his story on what happened. About 3 pages later of post and discussing the rules as they are changed back and forth-NO ONE UNDERSTANDS WHAT HAPPENED. NO ONE LEARNS FROM IT EITHER.
Here is what I think and I think JIM would be the person up for this. I tried it about 5-10 years ago on here but I wasn't good enough with the rules to see the project through.
Here is what I think should happen and I feel UKC should make this a separate post at the top of the page and it stays there. You start with the very first rule and you STATE the rule and you STATE HOW THE RULE IS APPLIED. Some rules have a (a) or (b) sub rule and they might need to be address separately. Take one rule or sub rule a day and explain exactly how it should be handled and if there is something in the advisor about it then that should be listed. YES ONE RULE A DAY AND BEFORE WE MOVE ON EVERYONE KNOWS THE ANSWER AND UKC's POSITION.
Some days the rule will be simple to explain and some days we may need to discuss that rule a couple days before moving on. But when we move on everyone has the answer.
Real question here
So why can't UKC give a test to the Hunt Judges like the Bench Judges? I understand that it can be hard to find someone willing to judge a cast. But it would help with the bickering out in the field. And people wouldn't be able to say "I got cheated" as much or at all.

Sounds good Bruce but it will not help everyone. You have a few different kind of guys that answer these questions.
1. The guy that has no reading comprehension and still cant get it even when its broken down for him.
2. The Philadelphia lawyer that even when they have been proven wrong thinks they can twist the wording to fit there desired outcome.
3. The guy that refuses to listen because that isn't how he was told by so and so that it should have been done.
4. The guy that knows the rules but thinks you can bend them because he didn't think they were "fair" or they were not convenient in their particular situation.
Those categories fit most people. Then you have the guys that know and understand them and a few people that honestly want to learn the right way, but there isn't many of them. I have a fairly good concept of them and what UKC intentions are for them and I will answer a question if I can but I stop replying when I realize I'm dealing with one of the above four types of guys.

I don't know why it helped but I got in the habit over the years when I am carrying the card before we leave every tree I give everybody their scores I have had a couple that didn't like it people knowing their scores but it saved a lot of confusion for some of the guys not being good at keeping score in their head keeps from having that big debate at card sighning time.
Things should be pretty simple. If you take a coon tree'er to a coon hunt that trees coon all a person should have to know is how to say strike and tree and be able to run a stop watch. Man after reading some of this stuff on here I am not sure I want to hunt in the hunts any more way to confusing. I do agree with u High Ridge.
IMO what UKC really needs to do is pick one (1) person and that person and only that person answer's rules questions! As it stands now we have a rule book that has 3 or 4 other books to explain it. I don't agree with that I believe the rules should have 1 explanation and only 1. Right now you have Cory, Allen, Todd answering questions or explaining how a rule should be used and at times even they don't agree. I doubt we will ever see UKC give us this but one can always hope.
