treeing contest ?
How is a treeing contest scored? I have been in local contests and it was the number of barks in a minute. If UKC is done the same way how can a bawl mouth ever win. I have two dogs that tree hard but one will only bark a few times a minute but is making noise the whole time because of his long bawl on tree, the other ones lets out long squeals.
About the only way for a bawl mouth to win, would be the only competitor
Barks per minute. If yours gives long bawls then your barks per minute will be less than one that chops on tree.

That's what I was thinking it does penalize the dog for the style of barking that they do.
We used to do it two ways. Barks per minute and style. Had three judges count the BPM, and averaged their numbers if there was a discrepancy. Style was also three judges, more of a subjective, but put several dogs on a tree and looked at how each dog treed with regard to keeping their feet on the tree, not face barking or running the tree, no milling circling or chewing. There was seldom any dispute about who the winner was.
I've only entered one in Louisiana but they counted pauses. Lowest amount of pauses wins. Tie you put them back on at same time judges voted on classiest dog. Seemed fair to me. My dog ( extremly hard tree dog) peed on post coon was in and walked away.
