Walker days 2016

I'm thinking about attending Walker days this year, which is a long trip for me. I only have one dog she is about a year old and turning on. I've come to the conclusion that if I go I'm taking my dog. That is if she continues down the road she's going. I'm just wondering about the opportunities to hunt a dog while there? Is there public land around the area? Would I need a hunting license? How many people from Kentucky plan on making the trip?

Union, South Carolina this year. Like I said I just have a year old dog, I'm just wondering If I need to pay the 30$ and register for the hunt just so I can get to hunt her. Or are there opportunities to hunt a dog even if your not in the hunt? I wouldn't actually be hunting for competition sake it would be more for the experience.

Walker days

What is the date for the big hunt in Union SC?

I'm not sure if it has been posted yet. What does the walker days in Inndiana consist of? Is it about the same as South Eastern treeing walker days?

These are the ads from the 2015 Treeing Walker Days. This should give you an idea of everything involved in the event. 2016 Treeing Walker Days will be very similar.

I'd like to know a little more about the pup extravaganza hunt, if anyone on here has participated.

I've hunted in it once. We usually get about 50 to 60 entries in the Pup Extravaganza. It's held on Thursday night of Walker Days, the same night as the Lee Crawford Invitational. You have to qualify for the Lee Crawford at a sectional or major event, but the pup extravaganza is open to any UKC registered Walker that's two years old or under on the date of the event. It's just like any other hunt, with Registered, Nite Champion and Grand Nite Champion categories. The Top Four scoring cast winners hunt it off in a late round cast to determine the overall winner. All cast winners get $50 and the Final Four earn a larger pot. 70% of the entry fees go back to the cast winners and Final Four. It is a Performance Point event, as well.

It's a good event, in my opinion. We used to have a pup hunt held later in the year, but it only got a handful of entries. This gets much more participation and helped us increase the total number of entries for Thursday night of Walker Days. Also, if you enter the Pup Extravaganza or Lee Crawford Hunt, you get a ticket to the banquet we hold that night before the hunt. It's usually a pig roast with all the fixin's.

Unless they have changed the date with their big move it should be 25 and 26 and 27 of February,it was always the last weekend week in the past years.

That sounds like a pretty good time. The hog roast may be the best sounding part. Lol

Yes. There's an entire section out back that's available for camping. When we consider clubs and venues for the event, that's one of the things we take into consideration.

Make your plans and bring a bunch of people and their dogs with you, Aaron!

The hog roast is tough to beat! The club over there does a great job of putting on the hog roast, getting guides and really making sure that people have a good time and things are well run.
