alpha and recall

I have a 1 year old redbone that is a pet. Just received a Garmin Alpha, and I am going to start working with him. I have looked at many videos on YouTube about training, but no training for recall with sound. Do any of you have any helpful hints to get me started? I have worked with him on a leach, and will start the Alpha in a couple of weeks. thanks in advance. d

John Wick. Tone 'em in. Google it. It will tell you every thing you need to know.

Here are some videos just released by Garmin.

Garmin continues to develop more effective ways to train your dog. In addition to new products such as the Sport PRO, Garmin has created a series of training videos covering the basics of dog training. Feel free to share the information below with everyone interested in Dog Training.

We have one we trained but with each dog you teach they also teach you something. We used a combination of tone and stimulation to teach the dog to come/
We have no problem collecting the dog from anywhere but the problem is. We probably used the stimulation too much and we stimulate for chasing a deer or some other unwanted behavior she will come to you.

So we have modified our RECALL training to just the tone and just a slight pressure on the neck like the video on recall says to do. Actually we are going to just try to get by with the tone button. That way if one is running a deer they get the shock for that and stop and continue on looking for a coon not coming back looking for the handler.

You can't stimulate them for everything. You have to pick what you want to use it for and stick to that.

Thanks Bruce, I will be looking at all of those videos. Can the alpha apply tone and stim (very small amount) on the same button?

Like the other gentleman mentioned there are several on You Tube and some may be more in depth instructions. I haven't looked at these as I just got the e-mail from Garmin with them.

The alpha and tt15 will tone,,shock,,or vibrate,,but. Will only do one at a time,,it depends on what setting you choose,,and depending on how you have the training set up,,you can do all from one button,,or all 3 buttons

Mr Brown you hit the nail on the head. You mentioned training set up and that is personal opinion I have trouble with. There are several different modes of operation and I see a lot of buddies with a pack of deer and bear hounds zip right through the list and get them all stimulated and stopped in no time. While other setups seems to be slower and some of the setups seem to be easier to make a mistake with.
I double my ALPHA for the store model and my personal use and I am always changing things and have to add all the dogs back every time I use it. I have seen some great Videos on You Tube.

Which training setup do you like to use?

I have seen many a dog that was "overbroke" on deer. If the other dogs hit a deer, the "overbroke" dog would immediately come back to his handler and refuse to go back hunting. I have heard handlers say that their dog was "telling on" the other dogs. It can be a real problem in a comp hunt. You have to be very careful how you use an e-collar. Most guys will mess up a couple of dogs before they get it right. But then most guys do not want to read an instruction manual or watch a video first.

I appreciate all of the information. I Just bought one so I can walk my dog in the woods without him running off. I will start watching the videos before I take it out of the box.

Bruce,,I'm really a dummy when it comes to these things,,lol,,I just got mine set on traditional setting and I have 5 dogs I track,,so I have 3 dogs on page 1 and 2 dogs on page 2,,each on the 3 buttons control a dog,,it only take a second to control any of the 3 dogs on page 1 and if needed,,it takes me 2 seconds to go to page 2 and I can control the other 2 dogs at the push of a button,,I like things simple,,lol,,,and this way is very simple for me,,I've never had to re-add any of my collars,,they all work perfect and I love them,,
I bought both my alpha tt15 bundles and an extra collar from you and you have a very satisfied customer right here
