How did the female run track? What was her hunting style?

I had three, down to one now. Not impressed. Much better dogs out there then these, that's for sure.

What was their down fall? What blood are you running now? On what game?

I had a female a friend bought from a guy in NY. he wanted me to run her for him, I took her out opening day of training season, I saw a bear cross the road right in front of me, I got her out and she sat down next to me and would never go. I kept running her for about 3 weeks after that, she would go back ward, slick tree, chase butterflys, she whinned on the chain ALL the time, she was slow, and she was a growly bitch. I had two pups out of her, both males running on bear, the one was a growly SOB too and just plain stupid, the other one I still have will run, does a so so job, nothing exceptional but will go. I run smokey river on bear and cat. Not saying there isn't good minisink dogs out there, but I sure didn't have luck with them and have no desire to ever own one again.

after reading your post about the bitch and two male pups out of her and what you said she done and all the faults she had , why in the world did you or who ever breed her and raise a litter of pups off her , that is why the pups one turned out like her and one just so so , you will end up with good and bad in all lines of dogs all though when you breed a dog like you described they are not a lot of hope from the start and that is why they are so many bad ones in a line of dogs , i am not picking at you i see it all the time with all lines and people breeding dogs that should have never been bred and then that line gets a bad name because of it ..

Posted by Farmer12 on 11-18-2015 01:27 PM:

Well Mr. good question why this dog was bred? You should probably ask the guy who bred her. When my buddy bought her she was pregnant from the idiot that he bought her from, he knew dam well what the dog was and did and he lied threw his teeth about it and ripped a man off. I asked the same exact thing to the guy he bought her from. I would of NEVER bred her, trust me. and the other pup is my mothers dog.

I always like the looks of those dogs but felt that they were too big for my hot climate. For big dogs, they seemed to have pretty good confirmation but I have never hunted around one.
Adios,

I had one for a while because she wouldn't run bear or coyotes. Made a nice coon hound. Not that big of hound, but medium nose, good track speed and a decent to good tree hound. Mouth was not loud enough for me. She was from John's kennel as a pup.

the mother wasn't a bad dog not fast maybe medium speed ran her on five or six bear and treed a pile of coon then sold her to a friend raised a male pup half Cameron out of my old male and he is all I want for bear trees many by himself in heavy pressured areas big but fast

I hunted ,owned, n seen alot of different lines of blue hounds over the years . I don't ever plan on it but if I had to go to a different line that what I have it would b a line of smokey river bred hounds. I've seen some guys strains I didn't care for but I've seen some others that were bred a little different n were some fine hounds.

I have had Minisink hounds for a long time. I love them!
I'm sure you know that not every pup born makes the cut .........as in any line and in any color. Do you remember what the name of the sire and dam of this gyp you had?

I agree. John J is from a different era and the hound world could use more of those old timers.

Where are you at in northeast pa Jaws? I'm by sayre but just inside of NY.

Funny thing is about the Minisink hound that Farmer12 is talking about. I'm pretty darn sure I talked to guy selling this hound. He told me she was NOT a bear dog. She was a bobcat dog and coon dog. I talked to him several times about her. And Jon J was going to lease her for the pups but in return for the lease got first 2 picks of the litter. But I could be completely wrong.
