owls

Someone on another thread said they noticed owls hooting back to thire dogs while they were treed well i have a 7 year old female nothing pulls her from a tree other than a lead strap but when the owls get to close to her she just runs away and not back to me or the truck she gose the opposite way and wont come back till the owls stop anyone else ever delt with this or heard of it im not really that worried about it when the owls arnt around shes a good dog

She may think it is Coyotes howling or barking at her and if she has ever had a bad run in with them i would say she gets scared and is peeling out when she hears them.

I had one that didn't like them. He didn't leave the tree, but he sure didn't like it when we were hunting and they got yelling back and forth. I got an owl hooter like you use for locating turkeys and hooted on it while I was around him. He seems to have gotten over it.
You gotta wonder what happened to cause the dog to react like that over the noise an owl makes...I thought one swooped down at him one night and scared him or because they were yelling back and forth to each other he might have thought they were like coyotes.

I was thinking she coulda been flogged by one maybe if she was close to a nest at somepoint in the spring and yotes dont seem to bother her

I don't care who you are...that's funny right there!!!!! You can always tell a real hillbilly...what burnt motor oil wont cure a bullet will.
I would try blowing the owl hooter one night when this dog isn't paying attention but is close enough to see it's reaction...if the dog crouches suddenly I would bet he's been dive bombed by one.

When the owls light up behind the house the jack Russell gets blood in his eyes, he wants a piece

Seriously, all BS aside...I would bet a gallon a Lenharts best shine that you will have a better chance of getting a coon to look with an owl hooter than any squaller made today!!!! Owls are the raccoons number one enemy. They kill more baby raccoons when they first start to leave the den than any other predator...why wouldn't a treed one look????

They will look. I hoot at em from time to time mainly as a last chance but Ive had several open those eyes when I did it.
