Just Old age or Illness?

My treeing walker coonhound will be 12 years old in December. She has never traditionally hunted, but we do live on 65 acres and she has treed several cougars and I have not seen a single raccoon since we brought her home. We consider her a pet.
My question is that just recently, about 5 minutes after she returns from one of her runs, her legs get wobbly and she acts disoriented. It passes fairly quickly. Has anyone else witnessed this? Please no harsh responses. Thank you

Could be low sugar level.

old age is hard

I have an old female that acts that way if she gets over excited. Vet said her heart is weak. But she is in no pain so she is living the good life til she passes.

My first thought was low blood sugar / mild diabetes. Being that old it wouldn't be too much of a stretch that her kidneys / metabolism were getting screwy.

Give her some sugary drink or treat and she should snap out of it fairly quickly.

Thanks so much! The Vets around here aren't very savvy regarding coonhounds. We have just recently changed her food because our other dog, a McNab, has gotten too heavy.

By the way my coonhound's name is 'PR' Baylee Belle, she is UKC registered seventh generation. She is the most amazing animal I have ever seen. When we picked her up in Oregon the owner's comment was, "You want her as a pet???"

Has she just started this since changing feed? If so Id feed her sumpthin else.

If a dog has not been hunted hard 12 is not that old for a dog but they are like people and some just age quicker than others but from what you have said i would give her liquid glucosamine and see if that helps and if you are feeding a high pro feed and switch to lower pro feed it sometimes can shock a dogs system at first but if she dont improve i would find a vet that would give her a good checkup.
