Dog wont tree

I got a Yadkin river male 2 years old that will burn down a coon running it but once the coon goes up he will not tree. He will smell up the tree bark a couple times and go on to find another coon. How is the best way to get him treeing?

take him and get his ears checked...

Take him for a walk out back to the bone pile, explain to him that thats where coonhounds that dont tree end up.
Its as likely to work as any other advise you will get.Lol.

Johns right and killin a bunch of coon to a dog that wont tree i just dont understand that. i would have his ears checked too.i have a female that has the same problem its in her ears right smack between them!lol

The guy I got him from said he used to tree but the guy that started him was hunting him with another dog the same age he liked more. So when they would split up and tree the guy would leave my dog on the tree a long time. He was young so he got in the habit of leaving the tree and running another coon.

i would try putin him with a good older dog see if that helps maybe give him a few coon if he stays tree if he don't i wouldn't let him even smell 1 at 2 yrs old he should be staying treed i wouldn't waste a bunch of time in a dog that age that won't stay not being smart jmo

They all don't make it don't waste your time an move on life is to short a nice young dog don't eat any more then a cull

I guess I would need to know more info. How many times have you had this dog out? Before you give up, I would try a couple of things. I would hunt the dog alone. When he trees, get in their fast and tie him to the tree. If season is in, walk one out to him. I would try this several times. Good luck

We have a female that threw pups that were notoriously late to start treeing. No matter what you bred her too. Some of them were two or older before they started treeing and staying.

Just do what Black and Tan Man said until you get something you like better. They dont all make it, but I have seen a lot more that will tree that need to be in the bone pile than those that havent started yet.

The first thing I would do with this dog is train him to come on command. But that's the first thing I do with any dog. Then whenever you want him, you have him. If you find his tree and he leaves, you have him back under the tree, tied up, in seconds.

Do this until that dog trees and sticks, then give him a couple. I'd rather see a dog not tree than slick tree. This is a easy fix. I've experienced this a couple times. All these dogs have tree bread into them, you just need to help bring it out sometimes.

another thing Ive seen work if your hunting one by themselves, tie the dog back maybe 10 15 yards away from the tree he barked up and left, shoot the 22 up into the tree a few times but dont shoot the coon, see if he starts blowing up on the leash if he does then cut him loose he should go over to the tree and start blowing the top out, letem tree for a little while but not till he loses interest, shoot the coon out to him

I had a female i got from a man ahe was 2 when i got her she was a litter mate to my kim dog she was a coon treeing machine accurate as all get out but she would leave the tree when ya got within 200-300 yards of her even if ya had another dog with her so we let one go for her during the day to see what was going on she was gun shy if ya ran in to her on a tree at night with your light off if possible you got to see her with the coon never got the chance to try and fix her buddie sold her after a falling out we had but your dog could be gun shy
