Hunting Backpack/game bag??

How are you guy's handling your dead coon during hunting season? Back pack, pack basket, game bag?

I see Eberlestock Gunrunner pack from Cabelas looks handy, as it carry's rifle and coon hides... but before I purchase one I figured I'd ask what everyone else does.

Thanks

I skin and loop a rope around head and rear and carry them around my neck like you do your lead

Thanks for the response... I guess I was thinking about the pack mainly as a way to try and keep ticks that are on coons from finding their way to me.

Coon around here by time kill season comes with the cold temps, dont have any ticks on them, i have heard guys tell me they found a tick on a yote in feb. but i never see any on my coon hides...you could try my
Stick method... if you dont want them touching you id stay away from sleepyheads mountain man knecklace lol

We use a dans shoulder strap game bag and love it. The strap is longer than it looks in pic as we throw it over our head on opposite shoulder than the bag hangs like carrying a lead and the bag hangs about you hip. The strap is adjustable. We skin coons in the woods and throw them in the bag it is light as a feather and the slick material holds up to all the briars and keeps blood or a wet hide from soaking through the bag. I've had mine for three years and still works great just have to spray it out once in a while and I spray zipper with WD40 once in a while to keep sand and stuff from sticking in it. It will fit a whole coon in it and you can fit 2 big un skinned coon in it but won't zip it but that gets really heavy. Like I say bag it's self is so light you will forget you are carrying it. Only thing I would like different is I wish it was blaze orange. I have the brown one and have sat it down in the woods at night and about never found it.

Hides

For those of you who freeze your hides rather than stretching them, how do you freeze them, what do you put them in so they don't get freezer burnt?

Just roll them up head first and they will be fine for the season. Bread bags do make it easier to seperate them to thaw.

Just a kids old backpack works fine, they will hold 4 nice hides and most have a compartment for your skinnin gear.

I do exactly what John said, I just want to add "that's with the hair turned out. I think they could freezer burn with the skin turned out.

I use a back pack I bought from surplus army/navy store. The army ones will out last any you can buy any where. I paid 12.00 for it when I got mine.Sometimes I see someone will have them at gun shows.Might be around 16-18.00 now.
Makes it nice when hunting alone.Just take it off to access your skinning gear and put the coon in.Won't ride up like a game jacket does.
I carry my skinning stuff in a bread bag.Throw half dozen grocery store bags in as needed.
I roll coon up fur side out starting at the nose. Place them in bag.Roll bag down tight and tie the top.
At home I mark the bag with a marker .Date, weight, male or female. That is so I know what to expect when I pull them out to put on stretchers.

North American fur auction house has around 700,000 coon left over from last year, I have coon up there that haven't sold in 3 years. It will take a brave fur buyer to invest much money in coon

I use a backpack too. A lot of game bags put too much weight on your lower back. The backpack keeps the weight supported by your shoulders. Its much less mess on your huntin clothes too, and keeps the hides nicer that if you are dragging them around and setting them on the ground every tree
