I actually do both. I think it's good for a pup to see what it's all about from an older dog "if" the older dog is dependable and not ill with a pup but once they got it you do need to get them off on their own.

You need a third option for both.

My last pup almost 100% alone, but she was an exception. Typically, I would have shot for 2/3 alone and 1/3 with another dog. The last pup though wouldn't hunt with another dog from day 1. Each time I hunted her with other dogs she always zigged when the others zagged, and got treed with her own coon.

When they figure it out on their own they get to play with others

I tried to edit the post it will only allow mods to do so. If a moderator sees this can you please add both to the poll. Thanks everyone for answering. I am used to training bear hound pups which is completely different from coon hounds.

Or you could just delete this thread and start another one

If they are up to the task I will run them by themselves. I have had much success with my young dogs.

I say hunt a pup by himself all the time but you do need to socialize it with other dogs as much as possible. Just my opinion

I agree. And after the pup trees two to three coons on buckets pull the pup off. Buckets are hurting dogs something serious.

Plus it makes tree happy dogs....just my opinion. The pup has got to learn how to use its nose before anything.
