On my 3rd Alpha.....and its junk too

Couple weeks ago I got another Alpha.....brand new, TT15 combo. It has the same problems as my last two. Freezes and shuts off about 10 times a night. Everyone I talked to says if you send it to Garmin they send you another that will probably do the same thing.

Anybody have any luck getting this fixed?

As high as they are....they should work

Harmon issues

Josh,
I had the same problem with mine but working with garmin we figured out it was a corrupt file on my card for Birdseye maps. After buying a new card deleting all the maps I had and re-downloading them it worked fine.
Maybe this isn't the case with yours but seems like the same issue I had.
To troubleshoot I took the card out and used it without the Birdseye to see if it still shut off.

All three have had different cards, and this one has a different card as well as new birdseye downloads. But I will still give it a shot.

Card

More than likely it's not the card but a map in base camp. I went thru a couple different cards but it wasn't until I deleted all the files out of basecamp and reloaded that it worked. Again maybe it's different all together but with three units doing the same thing it seems logical this may be the root cause.
Ps. The call works great thanks.

I'll wait till I have some time to re-download the maps and try that

For what it's worth...it sure seems like the Birdseye/maps thing might be the problem. I say this because I have never had Birdseye on mine, have one of the first ones to come out and have never had an issue or a problem yet of any kind. Did all the updates as they became available.

I am sure it is, but it doesn't matter. If birdseye is a problem it should be fixed. Personally I won't hunt without birdseye if I can help it. Most everyone that I know with an alpha has the same issues. It's flipping frustrating.

I'd say its due to the Birdseye too,,I have two alpha's,,,have never installed Birdseye,,and have never has any problems with either one of my alpha's

Josh: I've put Birdseye on about 200 Alphas and Astros. What I have found is that the high and medium resolution will cause this problem with too much of it on there. I have about 2/3 of the state of MS on most of the ones I do in the medium resolution and it works great. I usually put part of Illinois or part of Indiana on one when I'm going up there hunting. I would only use what Birdseye is necessary. I think it should work with whatever amount you put on there, but that is a lot of info on that little machine! Hopes this helps.

Ive got all of missouri and over half of iowa on mine without ant issues.

I haven't had in problems with the last few I've done either. The latest updates are supposed to have solved the problem. At one time, I would have to go back and keep removing Birdseye until it worked right. Also, if your handheld is full of archived tracks it will be really slow and turn off or lock up at times.

I do not record my tracks, I clear the dog tracks every night, sometimes more.

The last two have had all of mo and all of ia with standard def. This one has standard def in half of iowa, and just a few counties in mo, with high def in a small area where I pleasure hunt.

And none of this should matter. If I pay over a grand for a unit, and keep it updated, I should be able to fill a card with birdseye and use it longer than an hour out of the box without it shutting down.

If birdseye is the problem, why on earth do they not fix it or at least tell us birdseye will cause it to lock up. I am doing nothing but using the unit to the capabilities it was advertised and designed for.

And one more thing while I'm on my soap box....who at Garmin decided to build a touch screen device that you can't turn the screen off of with the touch of a button?

Rant over lol

Gone Down Hill

I think that since the 220 they have got worse and had more problems and the Alpha everyone is having problems and i think the training collars are not as good since the merge or buy out either but i figured that would happen.

The 320 was a great unit, loaded it with birdseye, no issues. I like the alpha as well, I just don't understand why Garmin won't or can't fix this one glitch, and why they didn't make a touch screen that you can't turn the screen off of with a single button
