Heartbreak at Flora

A dry, bright, moonlight night provided the perfect setting for disappointment last night at the UKC World Coonhound Championship in the coon hunting mecca of the world, Flora, Illinois.

Anyone that makes it to the Final Four has to be disappointed when the big apple doesn’t fall in their yard but it had to be particularly disappointing to the boys hunting the Black and Tan dogs. Not only disappointment that a Black and Tan has not won the UKC World Championship since Jeff Nelson did it with Buck II in South Boston, Virginia several years ago but heartbreak in knowing there is a standing $10 thousand prize posted by the American Black and Tan Coonhound Association for the dog that wins the World Championship.

I enjoyed the play by play. I think Allen and Corey did a remarkable job. I would have liked to have seen a little bit more color. For instance I would have liked to have known if the first tree of the night was a persimmon or was it a small tree at the edge of the woods that left no doubt. What type of mouths the dogs had on track and tree, things like that.

I'm surely not criticizing because I thoroughly enjoyed sitting at home last night and reading the reports. I’ve done lots of play by plays and know how hectic it is when the phone is constantly ringing, trying to keep the scores right and also trying to make it interesting. Believe me, it’s hectic! Kudos to the UKC team!

My buddy Nubbin Moore and I were on the phone and I was relaying the scores to him while he was on his way back home from the Alabama football game. Of course he was rooting for the Black dogs. There’s a strong fraternity in that breed.

Congratulations to Pepper and the Esteppe’s for their big win. It was an exciting final cast with a remarkable twist at the end. Who could ask for more?

Constructive criticism at its finest. There is always room for improvement, but as Steve said, "Kudos to the UKC team!" Congratulations to UKC for putting on another World Hunt and congratulations to all that made it to the finals.

AMEN!!!!!!!

My dog better be alone. Or have 1st tree. Can't stand a me tooing dog.

Would you rather say "I lost the World Hunt because my dog treed a grinner." Or would you rather say "I lost the World Hunt because my dog backed another dog on a grinner."

My dog at least better have first tree on it! Lol.

Give my dog a chance to tree a grinner in the final cast of the world hunt every year. I will take that chance that is a lot farther then most of us have ever gone!! I know most of you don't want to take that chance but I would welcome the opportunity to have that chance every year,

Congratulations to 2015 World Champion Pepper

I have not treed a possum in over a decade. I don't know why.....our dogs just don't do it, but nothing a dog does surprises me. Duds is independent, and accurate, but he has covered, and he has treed a slick. We like to think we know them, but we really don't. To me it just proves what everybody already knows. Even the best of them are just dogs. Every dead loner in the world has covered once.

Congrats to the final 4 and well done on the play by play Allen.

Is it possible to just take a camera with some sort of live feed? I'm no technician but wit today's technology I wouldn't think it'd be all that hard or expensive. Maybe some kinda sponsor could provide somethin to make it happen. Like Wat Purina and Garmin and dog box company's do. The new local go pro dealer sponsership. Something

Or get a coon treed on them at the end of a cast and won't cover to win it. Been a lot of times I've cut duds with a lead and thought, just cover them lol.

hunt

Good job to the top 4 and ukc on the play by play I really enjoyed it. The men that made top 4 had coon hounds for sure. The me too hounds were left behind at some point this week. If you think a me too hound can make it to the top four you haven't been to the big hunts. Bad deal for three of them but it happens still have to be coon hounds to be there. Again great job top 4.

That is a good ideal i think and UKC does a lot of videoing at events because ive seen it and if they shot the whole hunt out on stream vision that would be neat.

Treed TV

Get ole Curt Awring to film it lol. That would be good to get it filmed Curts episodes are good and I doubt he uses expensive things to get it done. I enjoyed it anyway and know very well what a bright moon night can do to the best of hounds.

Steve you know Im a colorful guy and I tired to add my twist ,, but Corey filtered me

that first tree was a Mable tree with a broke off limb about 20 ft high ,,, and Irvin did what he though was best , but 9 outta 10 would have circled it ,, we had that 10 th guy that night ,, but all was good

Shoot Darrell... I told Allen all about the old Native American phrase "Yate Hey" and about the ritual rain dance you preformed during our timeout in an attempt to improve tracking conditions and get the coon moving a little better I'm pretty sure you danced the wrong way around the fire though.... because the clouds cleared shortly there after and the moon seemed to shine even brighter than before

The truth of the matter is this was a very, very action packed cast for everyone involved! My thumbs were flying right out of the gate, and even for a technologically savvy 20 something year old like me, it was hard to cram the amount of detail into text messages that I witnessed on that cast. I'm sure Allen is a lot slower on a com-poot-er than I am too, and that doesn't help

Congratulations to Lance, Blaine, Darrel and Joe! You guys should be very proud to have made it where you did! All kidding aside, you all have very nice hounds and I was extremely fortunate to be able to walk alongside them during the Final Cast of the World Hunt (I even got to judge Solo in the alone-round )

Thank you to everyone that helped make this year's World Championship a truly memorable one! This is by far my favorite event of the year and hunting with you guys only made it that much better of an experience.
