If i was you i would try and shoot a couple different ones in both and then go from there because i have used both a lot through the years and if i had not got my shoulder broke up i would still be using a good fast shooting compound a crossbow is like toting a boat around the best thing about them is you do not have to hold the string back you can wait a critter out without them catching you drawing and spooking them,go to some archery shops and if they have a range they may have some used bows they will let you shoot or something or if you know anyone that has bows shoot theirs but on a compound the draw and pull will have to fit you to get the true effect.Mathews is one of the best compounds you can buy but they are others that cost a lot less that will work and Tenpoint and Excalibur are the two top crossbows but a good Barnett will work and cost a lot less.
Good luck with what ever you go with.
It depends on the amount of time you have. If you have time to do a lot of practicing, compounds are fun. If you want to kill deer and do minimal practicing, just make sure your still sighted in each year, crossbows are the way. I switched to a crossbow two years ago and love it.
If you want to get some good info you might want to call Bass and Bucks in Wabash. also I like the compound bow as I think you can have fun all year at 3 D shoot's. Ask them at Bass and buck's about all the shoot's they have all year. As far as cost they have all different priced bows that should fit any budget. I like Bear bows myself.
Ive shot bows for a long time. Shot tournaments every week. Loved shooting and bow hunting. Then for some reason I got tired of it. Havent bow hunted in yrs or shot a tournament in longer than that.. So last week I got the hankering to buy a crossbow. So I did. I bought a cheap one. A pse fang. $299 It shoots good. Only weighs 6 something pounds. Compact compared to others ive saw. I still havent went hunting though lol.

Crossbows are for people to lazy to practice with a compound or recurve or have tried and ain't good wit it. That or older fellas that don't have the elbow to pull a sting back anymore. Just my opinion. I shoot a Hoyt compound. Thought about gettin a recurve.

Kenny, I've been shooting a modern longbow for the last 16yrs. Prior to that, I shot a custom recurve for 10-12yrs. I can assure you, If you don't have a sense of humor, then you might ought to stick with the compound as you will certainly cuss more than you ever have. I have had bucks and hogs at 35yds and have to just sit and watch. My effective range is around 22yds and I simply refuse to take a shot that I have any doubts that I can make a clean kill. If you decide to go the recuve route, just remember, it ain't the end of the world "when" you miss.
Triple K, I would recommend a high let-off compound. One of the most common mistakes most guys make is letting their macho steer them into getting a bow that is too heavy in draw weight. Start with a bow that fits your draw length. Any archery shop should be able to help set you up with a rig to fit you. Whatever you choose, have fun and be safe ! Also invest in a good saftey harness if you will be huntng from a elevated stand. Good luck
Lol that's funny. But also always remember u think ur strong enough to pull it back now. But think wen it gets colder and uv been sittin for hours and u have a jacket on its surprisingly harder.

Yep it could be. I dont have that holier than thou gene in me like MOST bowhunters do. I say kill em any means necessary to have fun and enjoy it. I look down on none of em. Just like the post about how crossbows are wrong above lmao. Thats that holier than thou stuff coming out. Thinking they are better for shooting a regular bow. I have trophys all over my house from bow tournaments. I can shoot one pretty fair. Im not to old to pull one back or handicap or anything but if I want to use a crossbow. I dern sure will and dont give 2 rats tails about what some macho man bowhunters think. Im sure not going to try and discourage any new hunters by saying stupid crap like that.
