caughing an runny nose
I have a puppy that's caughing an has a runny nose I've never seen a dog do this so it's New to me. The puppy was sick wouldn't eat or drink but I have him eatin an drinking nw and he's putting weight back on. I was just wondering if anybody had an ideas what might be causing it an how to cure it thanks.
It could have what is commonly called "kennel cough." I'd take it to the vet though. Jmo
Coughing and runny nose could be "kennel cough" or bordatella. Most times it is self-limiting such as our common cold. You can treat the symptoms or not and it will run its course. Sometimes, in young puppies, geriatric dogs, or dogs whose immune systems are otherwise compromised it can lead to secondary infections such as pneumonia. Always best to seek veterinary care.
Once the puppy is healthy, you may choose to have it vaccinated against bordatella. It is given intranasally and is easy to do yourself.

Home to a bunch of short dogs who occasionally allow me the honor of holding the other end of their leads!
when my pups do this i simply give them the same dosage of childrens liquid cold medication as you would a young child. it clears it up.
