open face

Ol Junior has kind of an open face. that goes back several generations to several of the hounds behind him.Freckles,Boone,Frosty,Cotton and Walnut Valley Butch.Plus Crowder's Sugar Babe was Junior's grandmother and she was a great ol hound

Is he run on big game or has any of the pups been used on big game

I am not aware

Not aware of all the dogs from Junior but My Reno can be put on about anything. he loves to catch . there were quite a few of the ancestors used on mt lion and some on bear.

Posted by mouser on 08-25-2015 02:49 AM:

Hello.
Thank you Mr. Don for posting the pictures.

I only hunt my dogs on coons now. Other hounds behind these were used on coon, bear and hog.
I can send more pictures and videos via text and email.
Even though these will make bigger typed hounds, they should be pretty early starting hounds. Many hounds out of Junior would hunt and tree their own coon by 1 year old. Their noses should be very cold and they'll be natural tree dogs.
There's only 3 males and 1 female left to choose from. If I needed a male, I'd gladly keep any of them.
Thanks.

I texted pictures of the sire and dam to the listed number.
Old Junior has been bred to about 7 different females and I am not aware of any that didn't make track and tree hounds that would tree their own coon.
He puts ability, looks, nose and mouth into his pups. Gemini is an exceptionnal female that's big and strong. She stays between 80-85lbs year round. Hunts hard is smart and was a natural tree dog.

As Mr. Don said, there's numerous hounds behind these that carry the open face trait. Usually more than half of the pups have been open faced. This line tends to produce hounds with few body marks and sometimes hounds without any.
The people before me preserved this type of hounds with these traits. I can't and wont take credit for their hard work. This strain was handed down to me so I feel it's my obligation to keep it true. It's not only the looks of these that's impressive but more importantly the ability. All dogs look the same in the dark! I will always have this strain of hound. They were bred this way, tested and proven by the men of our past. I speak highly of these hounds because they are truly high class hounds. Old breeding that's continuing to prove itself today and that reproduces the same type. Driftwood, Grant, Farber, Silver Mist, Burch and even some Vaughn and a dose of Green and Lee Bros way back.

I was just curious when I see open face I always wonder if there's any spanky behind them

no

No Spanky in there that I am aware of..
Down the line from Gemini there was a small dose of Jet V if memory serves me right.

my old Cotton,Frosty and Freckles are in Juniors pedigree several tomes... they were "open faced. Cotton and Frosty had black on one side of their heads.. Freckles just had Blue ears.
down a couple more generations was Walnut Valley Butch.
his ears were dark... blue when he was a pup.

Ole Junior is 7 years old.
Don-I'm anxious for you and miss Jan to get here. I'll let you and Brad fight over who gets which pups. Both are very nice females. I can't believe the "Rattler" pup hasn't been taken yet! I sure do wish I needed a male so I could keep him. Of course when he matures, I could always breed him to Sandi! :-)
There was something a little special about this cross. These rascals are already standing on trees sniffing and looking up. All have good clear and loud mouths.

I plan on being down there this coming weekend to check these pups out in person. If I were to be interested in one, what would you want in trade? Cats, kittens, collars, leads, carbide light?

Posted by mouser on 08-31-2015 01:27 AM:

Well hey there Mr. Dave!!!!
Good to hear from you! Glad to know your still warm and above ground. Give me a call and/or send a text whenever your back in southern Appalachia.
You know when you see these pups you'll want to take one back across the Mason/Dixon line. I'm only about 8-10 miles from where I was when you last came down.
Shoot, I'd trade one of these pups for some good twist tobacco or a rusty CaseXX. Ha!!!!
PS. I still got your old ABGHA books. Don't think I've forgot. Don't I still owe you for a lead to?

Only got 1-male available out of this litter.
The 4-week old litter has 1-male and 3-females available.
