My good freind & big blue dog man ,Ed Willis passed this morning with possible heart problems. He was a master of hounds .and had some great dogs over the years.He loved his blues , and will be missed greatly. thanks,steve lilly

He was such an inspiration to many of us. Dana and I really enjoyed him over the years and he was certainly a wealth of knowledge. we certainly have had some huge shoes to fill in zone 6. Prayers sent for his family. He will be missed.
BROOKFIELD — Edward Charles “Ed” Willis, 80, of Brookfield, died Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brookfield Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Cadwell officiating. Entombment will follow at Tift Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday July 31st at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Brian McGhee, Matthew Joiner, Ben Gillis, Ken Moore, Ronald Hand and Jason Hazwell. Honorary pallbearers are Amanda Bullington, Andy Harper, Jones Ponder, Ken Ponder, Brian Ponder, Delton Bullington, Bill Sandifer, Bill Ray, Ricky Tucker, Coy Tawzer, Bill Richardson, Roy McWilliams, Wayne Phagan, Sheriff Gene Scarborough and the breakfast group at Hog-N-Bones restaurant.
Mr. Willis was born Feb. 1, 1935 in Tift County to the late Ralph Davis and Leila Bell Woods Willis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only daughter, Wanda Fay Willis Davis, who died in 1984; a great-granddaughter, Abigail Ann Davis, who died in 2014; three brothers, John Allen Willis, Clyde D. Willis and Kenneth W. Willis; and a sister, Gwendolyn Louise Willis.
Mr. Willis graduated from Tift County High School and attended ABAC and Brunswick Junior College. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War conflict. He was a farmer and millwright. Mr. Willis also was an excavator and bulldozer operator for Jones Ponder. He was a mentor for many young men and was full of laughter and enjoyed fishing, coon hunting and always had a story to tell. He was named to the National Coon Hunters Hall of Fame, Georgia State Coon Hunters Hall of Fame and Zone VI Coon Hunters Hall of Fame.
Mr. Willis won many awards from the Bluetick Breeders of America. He was a member of the American Coon Hound Association and Bluetick Breeders of American Association, where he served as president and held several other offices. He won many national, state and local hunting championships. Mr. Willis was a member of the Tift County Board of Education for 22 years.
“Tales of Mr. Ed” is a book of memoirs Mr. Willis was in the process of writing about coon and bear hunting. He was a member of Brookfield Baptist Church, where he served as a former R.A. leader and Sunday school teacher.
Mr. Willis is survived by his wife, Sarah Bell Evelyn Henderson Willis of Brookfield; a grandson, Brett Willis Davis; a granddaughter-in-law, Matisha Exum Davis, both of Tifton; a sister and brother-in-law, Brenda Willis Payne and Tommy of Knoxville, Tennessee; two sisters-in-law, Nema Lowe Willis of Nova Scotia and Jean Plemmons Willis of Brookfield; a son-in-law, Lamar Davis of Brookfield; and several nieces and nephews.
