A Mayhaw is a small apple like fruit that grows wild in the south. They were abundant thought-out the south, growing in low wet areas, but logging has taken most out now days. There is still a few here and there where its too wet for the loggers to get to. Folks now raising the in orchards. They now cross breed and graft them to improve the fruit. The raw fruit is not tasty at all, very sour and tart. But they make the very best jelly there is.

They are not crabapples. I make crabapple jelly from time to time. I think mayhaw jelly is way way better than crabapple.

A friend and I have been picking black berrys, he's made 18 jars of jelly. It's good stuff
Black berrys here in louisiana have been gone for a couple months now. Oh but they make some mighty fine jelly too.

Never heard of it until this thread...I am gonna guess and say that the pink color is added??? Any chance this stuff can be found in Florida??? I am headed to Marathon in two days...thought I might find some to try. I like finding new stuff...six months ago I had never heard of key lime wine...didn't even drink. I am tetering on alcoholism now!!!! and that maple flavored Jim Beam...I put that on pancakes.
You said you were head to Marathon in two days. Is that a place, a race, or the refinery? I have been working for Marathon for 30 years.
