Keeping cats

Anybody keep cats to keep the rodents in check? I'm also worried they'll kill my chickens. Any experienced advice welcome.

had no problem

we keep about 12-15 chickens for eggs.--have 12 young chickens and 13 old ones on the retirement list
right now there is about 5 old cats and 7 young ones... sure keeps the mice in check!
we keep the baby chickens penned until they are about 4 months old and start laying.. then they will go back to their nest after being out in the afternoon. they seem to intimidate the young cats and it tends to train them not to mess with them as the cats get older.
