What if????

Just wondering what people thought about having Ukc hunts where u have a 8-9pm. Deadline.and hunt all registerd dogs! Then say a 12-1am. Deadline for nt.ch.&gr.nt.'s to hunt?.. For the beaglers this works great! And the same handful of guys hunting and supporting the clubs can get several dogs hunted..just thought scince most of the hunts are down...this mite help!plus like myself,I know there's guys that have that nt.ch ther trying to Finnish,plus a promising young dog ther working as well..this way a guy could get em both hunted!,,just wondering what opinions wer on this?????

I really like the idea of double headers. The problem with separating open and Nt Chs would be that you're limiting your entry for each event.

You won't find many UKC clubs willing to send dogs to the woods at 1:00 AM.

I have to agree with Jim, clubs won't want to send cast to the woods at 1 am.
Also probably the clubs would end up having to have 2 event licenses as it would be a different day-date--so another night hunt license would be needed--more expense for the clubs.
do you think a hunt director or Master of hounds would want to stay up the added hours also for a few Nite chs?

Double headers are done all the time in other Kc's but they are on 1 hour hunts they are becoming the norm for $30 weekend hunts with a mandatory split of $ and usually have a great turn out for early and late but the clock runs consectively the whole time you are walking to dogs , the entire hunt takes place from one hunting spot hardly ever move hunting spots & timeout is rarely called unless dogs are in danger . It won't work with a 2 a hr hunt especially a 2hr UKC hunt they take to long and deadlines are to late to start a separate hunt . Most our deadlines down this way are usually atleast 2 am on a UKC hunt sometimes later this time of year & ones with bigger turn out for those that have to drive farther for hunting .

I think we as hunters should start brain storming ways to get more hunters involved in our sport.

I'll be honest and this isn't meant to sound like i'm bragging but finishing a dog to Grand Nite has became far to easy.

Maybe the answer is fewer hunts? I really don't know

The other KC is the other KC......what works with those guys will not nessesarily be accepted by these guys.
I use to say they both hunted the same dogs, same guys. But, at least in this area, that just isn't true anymore.

It's amazing how prejudice some are against other registries. Same thing around my area.

Anything that supports our sport I will support when I can. It's pretty clear that its near impossible to actually come out ahead hunting in either unless you only attend and win the bis ones. It should be about the enjoyment and seeing good dogs work. Unfortunatley now like anything else the chase is over the dollar.

Matt usually once I finish a dog to Nite Ch when I show up there's anywhere from 3-8 Nite Chs. I really wish there would be around 10-15.

Jim said it all. Hoosier your statement sounds pretty selfish to me. You want someone to put forth the effort so you can hunt two. Why don't you get a master of hounds license. Then you and your buddies can make it where someone else can do this. There is not a prejudice from PKC, CHKC, or UKC. They all have their place. It just sounds like you want someone else to stay up all night so you can push two dogs.

I think you are replying to the wrong person. I said I hope there would be more dogs showing up never said anything about favoring UKC double headers and can promise you it would never work.

I would put forth and let them hunt 2. Only problem is these ukc hunters get in no dang hurry to get back to club or finish hunt. Timeout, move , timeoutand over and stinking over. Aint time in a night to do that in north ga. Ive watched every single truck hunt cast be back and scores posted on computer. Meanwhile me hunt director at our little 4 cast hunt dont have a cast back at all. Im gonna start giving less time. They miss deadline. They just miss it.

I don't comp hunt but keep up with a couple clubs. Around here 2-3 NtCh dogs is about it per hunt. So you are right, not hard to finish them like that. Its possible you could grand a dog and may only have to compete against 7 or 8 dogs for all their wins.

the time out an move all depends on a guides woods an how dogs hunt.. i have a few big woods that you can stay in for 2 hrs if dogs dont blow out. but if they go all dif directions an screw up. you gota move.. an i have a few spots that are small an cant hunt 2 hrs in.. sometimes moving is what has to be done.. but i have been in indiana an shine a corn field an see 25 coon an we turn loose an tree one an then move.. that i believe is going to far

Lucky to have a dozen dogs around here. I don't think many would stay for the late round, especially this time of year. The $kc guys stick around if they're pushing one in the state race or trying to get ticket. A piece of a performance point or a yellow slip is little incentive to hunt twice a night.

when you reward the high scoring dog and not cast winners they will continue to use timeout after timeout. I've said it before look at the scores for autumn oaks and pkc's labor day classic before you had the hunt off at oaks. It would take 500-800 pts to get you in at pkc's hunt where at autumn oaks if you didn't have over 1100 you didn't have a chance in heck to win that sucker. and more than likely you needed over 1500

you realy cant compair autum oaks. that is a one night hunt run off in 2 nights.. an its becuz of the amount of entrys... i try to figure out how come every question that gets put on this ukc mesage board always ends up compairing them to the other kc's.... if i aint mistakin they have a mesage board too

Don't try any longer, I'll tell you. If UKC or any other KC starts copying what the other is doing there's gonna be comparisons made. You are not mistaken, the other KCs have websites. People should get on there and get involved in multiple KCs instead of always wanting to change how one operates.

YES! And its most of the time the guy that hunts closest to the club, and will never be back before 15 minutes left on deadline, regardless if its 2am or daylight.
