Silent on Track Dog How to Fix it
Hey guys got a question. I have a B&T that is Silent on Track and will tree a coon but, will only bark 3-4 times then leave. How do you suggest fixing it?
Thanks

To get him to open up on track I think I would try to get him on a good hot track while still on the lead just kind of let him lead you for a little way until he gets worked up good hopefully he starts bawling pretty good then turn him loose. This can work real good if you have a good dog to run him with turn the other dog loose 1st and just hold him back a little until he gets wound up then let him go. As far as leaving the tree goes all I can say there is try to get your butt in there and get him caught and tied back at the tree and try dropping a couple out to him. If this is a young dog we're talking about it could all just start working itself out.
I don't think there's much you can do to fix it or get a dog to open more on track. Some dogs are just like that. My female was tight on track when she was younger then her mouth has loosened up with age, didn't happen till she was about 3-4. Just the breeding and nature of the dog

.22 if it's been hunted much and won't tree better than that at 4 years old.
The best coon treer' I've ever seen I owned . Almost completly silent . I don't like a silent dog . I tried every trick in the book and 20 more you've never heard of . Nothing worked on that one or any other I've ever seen. You might get them to open some in a rice field race or something but they're not going to be trained to bark on
track. I also got opinions from people like John Wick , Berton Oney , Buddy Gilbert and Carl Minehart . They all said the same thing in a nutshell. It is what it is. Not going to fix it .

At 4 years old there isn't much you can do. I will tell you this, it is usually easier to sell a silent dog than it is an open dog.
