Color / Tail Standard Question?

Well coated but without flag. What does this mean? I have a 8 week old that the end 3" of her tail is white.

Flag

Well coated refers to the hair on the tail of the hound. Fully covered and not hairless like a Rat. The "flag" reference is not about color but the length of hair -like a Setter Bird Dog. I hope this helps.

It was always under my impression a flag was that hair that flares out on the bottom wen tail curls up

a flag tail refers to the hair on the back side of the tail bone when elevated. on a coonhound, the hair should lay flat against the skin.

a foxhound is supposed to have a flag tail. when their tails are elevated, the hair stands out from the tail.

this dog has as flag tail. its also seen in beagles

We have always called the white tip the flag.

no, the tip is the end of the spine. its just usually a different color. the flag is on the back side of the tail

I knew the white tip wasn't a disqualiffing issue just had to prove my point. The person had always herd me call the white tip the flag.
