Feist and cur training question
How do you get feist and cur to not chase deer or any big game or rabbits and will they usually stay near you? never squirrel hunted or owned a squirrel dog before. Its just when i deer hunt at my cousins i hear squirrels rattling leaves and once i counted 12 squirrels in one stand and 6 in another because they only deer hunt.Should i go for squirrel hunting and why? Btw im 14 and saving up my money and usually hunt by myself.
Squirrel hunting with a dog is a lot of fun. Depends on the dog how close or how far it hunts. Shock collar used wisely will break them off deer.
running deer
I only have one cur.. I started mine as a young pup along the edges of a corn field... I could see the tracks she was running in the snow or mud... I didn't use an ecollar. I used a football whistle to chirp her a couple times and when she came back I would give her a treat... When I saw she was running a deer I would tell her NO!.. Then chirp het back...when she hit a coon or squirrel track I would tell her good dog, and if she ran the track to a tree pet her up and encourage her to bark. One time she ran a coon up an electric pole and I was the only one barking treed!! Good thing nobody knows about that.....
