Any tips on getting a pup to tree
I have a pup right now that i really like and he is just now getting started and getting clicking, its like the light just clicked in his head and i know he still has a lot to learn and alot to grow but he has alot of track power but i just dont think he has put it together at the tree yet he is only 10 and a half months old but i was just wondering about some tips to maybe help him out at the tree to encourage him a little or maybe get him going some! Thanks in Advance!

Kits will be out in abundence shortly maybe you'll get lucky and catch one 15ft off the ground like I did last year with a pup. That sealed the deal for him right there you can't duplicate that with a cage.

No problem yeah this time of mulberrys can get them fired up. But if yours is already tracking it shouldn't take long. If you can trap a barn Coon that someone doesn't mind killing take it to a strange spot. Don't let your pup see it. U need one tree it don't have to be but 20 steps from the tailgate. Turn it loose about dusk get a stick aim the Coon in the direction of the tree and force it up that tree. If you pour some water on the Coon that tree will be red hot for your pup. Works like magic.

Had a rebel bred female that would not tree. She tracked good but that's the easy part. She trailed an easy coon right to the tree. I couldn't. Get her to bark and that's where I do my best work. I took a handful of rocks threw them all throughout that tree and she blew the top out of it after that. Never looked back. Many ways to do it. I'm glad to share all my info. Another way that helps if you have a litter of pups take them to the timber. Get some lunch meat make drags with them and hang them up about two or three feet. I've had pups locate on it at six weeks old. Don't do this but just a few times. When they get a little older and start to act like hunters treeing will be the first thing on there mind.

I got a 9 month old and way I did with him was at 9 weeks I ran a scent drag maybe 15 yds. Then took peanut butter as high as he could reach and smeared the tree wit it. Then mashed a handful of kibble in it. But every night I played tug of war with him wit a piece of rope with diluted scent in it. And wen I started doin drags he picked up on it rite away. Associated that food and scent with that tree. Meanwhile workin the speak comand. So wen I got him findin the tree wit food I started switch in it wit dead coon. And wen he gst there I tell him to speak. Been puttin him in field trials since 6 months old and he's been winning. And out huntin he runs and trees with other dogs so far.

IMO gettin a pup to tree if hes not ready is a horrible idea, god forbid theres enough slick treein idiots out there you dont want to make one of your own, id be worried if he was 18 mnths not 10, and from most of the dogs ive hunted recently in the last few years tracking was the hardest part, give
Me that dog that wants to keep runnin that track and
Whos settin up trees and if you do it right he oughta make a goodun
I didn't have to push him. He absolutely loves it.

My opinion is the dogs I have started that tracked first made better dogs as far as the total package!! As far as the tree just let him start treeing when the pup is ready! Bottom lonnie is you can take some tree out of them but you can't put it in them if it's not there M!! Good luck

Ain't it obvious that he can't tree if it don't track it first?

By all means if ur dog ain't ready then it ain't ready. But if u have a dog that's interested then start training. Waitin till 18 months to train is like waitin til a kid is 14 before u teach em how to ride a bike. They're learn in and want to. They're very impressionable like a kid. Wen ur dog is learnin to be a coon dog at 18 months, mine at 18 months is already startin to comp hunt. I have a lil female that's a slow starter. My male was tearin up coon tails at 9 weeks. And didn't wanna let go of it. Wen i say coon at 9 months he jumps up out his sleep and darts for the door. All im sayin who would rather just hold they're dog back. people that wait till they're dogs are 2 yrs old to train imo are the same people u see thatl only let they're kids ride they're bike in the driveway wit a helmet

Time and patience. The last thing this guy needs to hear is how your pup treed coons before he was 6 mos. old. We've all had this type of pup, but we've also all had pups that didn't do it until a little older. And still turned out to be OK coon hounds.
I understand that. All im say in is if it's interested then start it
