Sick dog

I have a 8 month old redbone i just bought a couple weeks ago. When i left for work fri afternoon he was fine, but when i pulled in the driveway at midnight he wouldnt leave his doghouse which is really weird (usually hes barking or whining ready to go hit the woods). He hasnt ate since fri and has thrown up a couple of times and is drooling ALOT. Im taking him to the vet in the morning but im just curious if anyone else has ever seen this? Im guessin either worms of some kind or parvo? My 5 yr old just loves this dog and its bothering me just watching him suffer hes just skin and bones right now, because we already had one meltdown when he was throwing up this weekend. Any input before i take him to the vet would be appreciated thanks.

If he's eating I wouldn't expect parvo. Maybe that flu going around or maybe Girardia. If I have a hound getting sick I will give them a loaded baked potato and a bowl of chicken broth. They will eat that.

He doesnt have worms and tested negative for parvo. The vet is keeping him they cant get fluids in him yet. They think it was something he ate when i was hunting him. Im wondering if my neighbor poisoned him. A few months ago he kept cutting my dogs chain but i figured he quit messing with them since the cops got on him about it

Can you clarify please??? A baked potato loaded with what???? Whatever it is, the rest of it sounds like a good idea to get them to eat. Sometimes when a dog is sick just eating something will really help to bring him around.
Are his gums nice and pink or are they white??? Any blood in his stool??? I have had really good luck with all the dogs I have had...never had one get very sick or even injured. I hate to hear of a sick dog...it has happened to way too many of them. At 8 months old it would be unusual for it to be parvo...at least around here that is a young puppy disorder.

Sounds like something in his intestinal tract to me.Most dogs or pups chew on something and if they swallow it will act like that until it passes through them.
I been told by different vets wood will not show up on x rays.
For as long as it has been if this is the case that he swallowed something, it may be impacted in him .

i didnt notice his gums when the vet was lookin at them. His stool is loose but not bloody. As far as eating he hasnt ate since fri i even tried canned food and hot dogs. He just throws up his saliva alot of it

my wifes bulldog got sick and stopped eating, she took him to the vet and the dog had a chicken bone stuck in his gut.

loaded baked potato

Meaning, just like you would get at a reasturant. Butter, bacon, sour cream. Dog can't resist it.

Just an update they finally got fluids in hoss but he still wont eat dog food. I was told he possibly ate something dead when i had him in the woods at some point and he got some kind of bacterial infection.

I have a redbone that had an intestinal blockage from eating a dog toy when we were in a dog park--a spongy rubber thing. It actually sat inside his gut for a good six months to a year before it passed far enough down to make him sick. Didn't show up on x rays. He vomited and had diarrhea for over a month before he finally vomited up the toy. He lot so much weight I thought I was going to lose him, but he recovered fully.
Dogs sometimes eat all kinds of inedible stuff. I had one friend whose bluetick got a blockage. She had him operated on and they pulled out 8 dish towels! I've seen them get sick from chewing up wood, from tennis balls, and one of mine once ate our jack-o-lantern after halloween and was vomitting pieces up for weeks. Doesn't have to be anything bacterial involved, although it could be.
My best recommendation is to give the dog pepto bismol to relieve the symptoms. When mine lost so much weight, he actually got to like the pepto bismol and would lap it up. Otherwise, use a turkey baster, hold the muzzle shut, and squirt it in where the gap between the teeth is behind the canines. They also make pepto bismol pills that don't need to be chewed, although they're sometimes hard to find. Didn't cure him, but it made him a lot more comfortable. Sure made a mess, though.
When mine was at his sickest, he would lap up chicken broth, and that's all that kept him alive for awhile. Rice cooked in chicken broth sometimes stayed down as well.
Sometimes vets recommend feeding a slice of bread or two soaked in vegetable oil to ease passage of an indigestible object through the system. However, it sounds like your dog is too sick for that.
If you have access to a vet clinic where they can do an ultrasound, they may be able to find what is blocking his digestive tract if its something that doesn't show up on x-rays. Its expensive, but it isn't invasive and doesn't make the dog more uncomfortable. A veterinary teaching hospital or a large regional vet clinic may have ultrasound equipment. Ask your vet where.
Hope he gets better.
