Flea and tick medicine.

Guys what's the best flea and tic medication.
I have a 13 month old dog I sold that I just found out it has Lyme's disease. This Dog had the Lyme's disease vaccine and always had frontline on it. I guess the front line didn't work? Im going to switch up and get something else for my dogs. Im not going to risk more of them getting the disease.

You have to repel the ticks to prevent the disease. Once the tick bites the dog, even if the tick later dies as a result of frontline, the dog can be infected with the disease.

I have been having good luck with the Seresto collars repelling ticks. It's only been about three weeks, but have not had a tick on my dogs since putting the collars on them. There are several others on here that have had the same results with them.

I have used Trifexis for heartworms , intestinal worms and fleas. Used Preventic tick collar to repel ticks. This combination worked well except Preventic collar irritated dogs neck. Have recently switched to Tri Heart Plus for heartworms and intestinal worms. Using one Bravecto chewable for 12 week flea and tick protection. Haven't used the Bravecto long enough to form an opinion on its effectiveness. Downside is this is an expensive plan.

Do you guys using the Seresto collar have any problems with irritation around dogs neck ?

Cattle Tags

I've been using the cattle Python insecticide tags at Tractor Supply since last year. I never see my dogs itching and haven't really seen any fleas or ticks on them. Just wrap the tag around the collar and attach the tag to itself with the button. Seams to work well.

Cattle tags were popular around here till a close buddy of mines beagles had serious problems

NexGard flea and tick oral tablet. We have 3 dogs on it in the worst tick area of Texas. No fleas and no ticks.
One dog that wasn't on it was covered in ticks. This stuff works!

Prevent a tic dog collars are very effective against tics.
It will keep them off your dog. Combine that with a good flea and tic topical treatment. Then also check your dog every night and day after hunting.

P.s. once your dog gets the Lymes vaccine they will test positive for lymes.

It is more cost effective to just treat your dog, then it is to vaccinate every year. Don't waste your money.

Also lymes only effects 5percent of the dogs that test positive.

WOW! I looked up the price of Nexgard. I have 3 hounds and it would cost $65 per month.

How much do your hounds weigh? I have it from a good source (hopefully) that if your hound is under 60 pound then half a pill will work. I was quoted at $20 a pill so that is $10 per month per dog.

Here are my thoughts. NexGard is relativity new but over the years the most crippling thing I have had happen to my dogs is one of the Tick Disease's. It just takes the wind out of your sails to get one to where it should be and then see the performance level fall off. Then testing show Ehrlichia and it is two pills a day for several weeks. I am not sure I have ever thought the dog made 100% recovery.

I just spent $200 for a tick profile on a dog and this testing was the most complete testing they can do where they look into the cells of the dog. 9 negatives and 1 positive and the positive was the rarest of all tick issues. Minor symptoms and curable.

Once I sudy and learn more about NexGrad and if the cost will end up less that $15 per month per hound then all mine will be on it. Of course I would rather be closer to $10 per month.

One comment I read that once the tick bites the dog the disease is transmitted. I have to learn more on this but my experts say the tick has to be there a certain length of time and by that time it is pulling out and dying.
I need to learn more but this may save me a lot of heartaches in the long run.

Freedom 45 is 10 bucks for 3 month supply have not had a tick on any dogs since i started using 2 yrs ago!!!

Well I have used the products that killed ticks once they attached, and have had three hounds get tick diseases. So, I am opting for repelling them and so far the Seresto collars are doing that. I plan on adding the spray prior to hunting, that was suggested earlier, as well. If I lose another good one to these diseases, I may be done!!!!
