old timers

I'm really able to relate to this thread! I just got back into coon hunting after being out of it for over 20 years! I picked up a used garmin the other day and wow, these new kids wouldn't have known what to do back in the day! Back in the days that I hunted every night, I was just a teenager. I couldn't afford a tracking system, if you could call them that compared to these new GPS systems, or even a shock collar. If the dogs got out of ear shot, we just drove around til we could hear them again or leave them. That was the only option we had. If the dogs got off on a deer or fox, we ran them down and corrected them, I know they had shock collars back then but they were way out of my price range. Apparently now days there are alot of guys who want a dog that is silent on track...when did that happen?? LOL. I like to hear a good race! Another thing that surprised me is registered X breeds! I'm not trashing them, in fact I have one but I never dreamed they could be registered! Man, there sure has been alot of changes in the last 20 plus years!

Don't believe half of the stuff you read on here especially when its a complaint about this breed or that breed, or how there are no good dogs etc etc its typically one guy who just doesn't get it. There are some fantastic hounds out there, who would amaze you.

You aint seen nothing yet...get out one of your 20 year old scorecards and pick up one today....the rules are a lot different. Dogs today no longer tree slick...they now tree squirrels. Of course some things never change...nobody to this day has any mean dogs and just like 20 years ago, nobody has dogs that run any junk either!!!!!
i agree that the dogs are better than ever...I am very happy with the ones I have now.
