hold tree

Way does the rule say dog must hold tree for five minutes when actually they must hold it until handled even if it's 20 minutes. ..I understand the five minutes for other dogs to tree on same tree....but in some situations the dog may be treed for twenty minutes before you get there and all minus rules still apply. ...

All it really means is you can't go in there for at least 5min unless all other dogs are treed.

Most casts Iv'e been on the casts moves within easy walking distance of the tree while the "5" is running and when it's up we stroll in. Obviously if the dog's 900 yrds deep that isn't going to happen real easy but there's not much you can do about that except start hoofing for the tree.

On a three dog cast the other night 2 dogs got deep (.75 of a mile) and treed we went to them, while scoring tree the other dog treed the opposite direction it was very still and humid it took at least 30 minutes to reach the dog..when we got there he came off the tree about 20 yards and wouldn't go back and tree he was sapped...got minused for leaving tree..had a coon and no it wasn't my dog

Ok, if they don't minus that dog, then how should they score his tree points? Just score him like he was there? Delete the points since it took so long to get there and he left? What? You gots to do something with those points. What you want done?

It gets even better...they don't just have to stay there until handled. A dog has to stay even after being handled. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me because at that point it sure seems like he has done what is required.
If you tie him to a tree after being ordered to "handle the dog" and while you are shining he breaks free and leaves he is minused. When the judge says, "handle 'em" you need to tie your dog carefully!!!!!

I agree with the call....but the rule makes it sound like all he has to do is hold it for five minutes. ..maybe the rule should say until tree is scored..idk

A dog should stay no matter how long it takes to get there
