Squalling Rule- Can Anybody Tell Me?

Can anybody tell me if there is ever any thought given to revisiting the current squalling rule during rules committee meetings? Maybe it's just me but I think that it's not fair to a dog who might make the occasional tree alone. There is much more reward for a dog that stays in the pack. I'd love to hit some of the $250 entry hunts that have been started but can't bring myself to do so knowing if I get a tree by myself here or there that I'm gonna have to shine it in silence for seven solid minutes probably hurting any chances I have of getting a coon to look during the last three.

Am I alone in this way of thinking?

Why should you have wait? Other dogs had 5 minutes to cover & it amounts to a waste of time to stand there while giving them the extra time to get treed. Shine the tree & squall to get it scored, so a person can get your dog cut loose to tree another coon. It is time to change that rule & will be brought up at next rules meeting. Take care, Ron.

I was thinking the same thing the other night. If you are going to let me do it after 7 min why in the world cant I do it from the start? Can anyone tell me what the thought process behind this is? If the dog on trail is going to come in when I start squalling from the start of shine time he is going to do it after the 7 minutes, so whats the difference.

a pressure takin dog ain gonna pull anyway i work this stuff pleasure huntin dog barkin in box/squallin / split trees any distraction should be used to TIGHTEN ur dog up i aint payin big entry fee if i aint pretty confident in the stayin power i wouts split ldnt tree my dog unless i had to anyway until shine time over leash lok other dogs use up clok n hope to plus it thats not about confidence thats about smart handlin within the context of the rules but agreed on shine time too long squall all u want that just keep the pack dogs together find that split dog that gets split in same zipcode some of the time n u got it wish i had one half way between deep n lonely and packdog good luk

I do understand the rule sorry guys. If the rule changed I know alot of guys that would squall and squall trying to get your dog to come in and there may not even be a coon up there tree. A good dog isn't supposed to come in after he's running a track but not everybody has one. Some coons are tougher to tree than others. My suggestion would be to pull your dog off his tree at 6 min 50 seconds stand back and squall without your dog barking most times it works.

I remember when I first started hunting competition you couldn't squall at all if other dogs were still working. I don't know how many times that cost me. So I'm thankful for the 3 minutes they gave us to squall.

The other night I was in a hunt dogs were treed bout one hundred yards apart. We squalled like crazy trying to find there Coon. When we got to my dogs tree it was a hedge tree didn't see the Coon cause he had climbed out we seen him swimming around the pond. This time of year sow coons will make a run for it. We all have seen stuff like that probably. There are good tree dogs and great ones the right person squalling can bring one right on in. Sorry for posting so much just my opinion. Whatever they come up with that will be the new rule.
