Garmin Pro Trashbreaker Warning!!!

Had an issue with the TB10 collar last night on my dad's new Trashbreaker Pro system. Somehow when we turned the collar on, it went into no-bark mode. We didn't know until the little female who was wearing it struck a coon track. She hit the track and opened 4 or 5 times, then shut up. The other dogs finished the track and treed, and she came running away from them. We didn't know what was wrong, thought the other dogs might have treed a possum and she wouldn't touch it. Then while she was standing right next to me, she let out a yelp like she had been shocked. We took the collar off right away, but it messed her up for the night. I can't think of a better way to screw up a nice dog than shocking her on a coon track. So be careful if you have one of these collars. It is easy enough to check before you strap it on your dog. Just hit the tone button, or the light button on your transmitter, if the collar beeps or lights up, you're good to go. When the collar is in no bark mode, the transmitter won't control it.

I never understood why they would add that feature to begin with for exactly that reason. I hope I never have to buy that system. Good Ole classic 70 and trash breaker were just fine without it. If it's not broke don't fix it.

If you hold on the button down till the light turns blue the no bark feature comes on. That's probably what happened.

Yea it would have been nice to have been a optional feature not a standard. I have never used it other than for one in a box. A dog that barks at home would chew the antenna off in hurry as long as it is.

I was just thinking about the garmin pro... 4 mile range seems like overkill to me! If it takes someone 4 miles to figure out that they have a deer-running dog, they probably need a new dog, not a longer range shocking collar!
At 4 miles, the dog can't even hear you call/whistle, and you have no idea what it is doing. just my opinion lol.. I'm sure it is a great collar system though

The range is valuable if you have dogs that will respond to the tone and quit what they are doing and head your way.

I personally think they complicated things with the bark control but not for the same reasons stated here. I am not going to leave a $150 collar on a dog for another dog kennel'ed with it to chew up. I can get a $75 bark collar for that reason.

I appreciate the gentleman that had the problem sharing with us that you have to be careful and make sure your in the right mode. That is 100% correct. Same thing as making sure your Tracking Collar is on before turning the dog loose. Making sure your car is in reverse and not drive if your backing our of a parking space.

We have to be responsible and do the right things, and not be negative about a product because of advancements. As long as Garmin or some company makes a system as nice as the ALPHA that will be whats on my dog. If that system went away the Pro Trashbreaker would be the stimulation system of my choice.

Had similar problem one night years ago buddy had a nice young dog but he babbled in the box he put bark collar on him well we seen coon cross road and dumped on it dog acted funny till we got in to tree and seen in our haste we forgot to pull it off he was ok by end of night back to normal but could have really ruined him.

I don't know the wiring set up in the collar so I don't know if this holds any weight but what my concern would b is if I did everything correct and a short happened or if the collar just malfunctioned and went into bark mode on its own. Don't get me wrong i love how garmin is innovative but why put a no bark capability in a collar that is going to b on a dog required to bark? Seems pretty cut and dry to me.

33 year coon hunter and I found the $37 Guardian Bark Collar at Wal-Mart to be the best on the market hands down.

Before everyone concludes the collar is junk by design....I am not so sure the so called "no bark" feature was really meant to leave the collar on a dog just so it don't bark in the kennel. Maybe, but I think it has a better use. If you are really trying to break a dog that runs trash it is very useful. The timing of the shock is very critical for a dog to learn. You can for certain stop a dog anytime you want, but the no bark feature works great to deliver a shock as soon as a dog opens on a bad track. Obviously, you don't put the collar on him in that mode a cut him loose at night. it is for when you know you have a dog that will run junk and you are going to drive around and see whatever the animal is and turn him loose right on it. You know what he is running and you cant miss with the critical timing of the shock.
Before some one jumps on here and writes about how much better it is to start low and as the dog is running go up in power until he stops...yes, that is the preferred way. But sometimes with some dogs or trainers a very immediate shock works great.
