Aggresive in the box?
I have a young dog that is aggressive with any dog that is put in the box with her.She is 10 months old.Ive been stoping it with a shocker but I'm worried what this could lead to.Ive never had a dog show aggression before.Anybody exsperiance this?
Matt you are going to here everything from cull her to give her time. One of the best dogs I ever hunted was absolutely vicious in the dog box. He never had the first aggressive moment in the woods.

At ten months, she hasn't fully figured out her place in the world. I'm a softy, but I just wouldn't make her share a box until she matures a bit, then I would start getting her used to sharing with another dog she knows and seems to like outside the box, especially one that she has hunted with, so that she associates sharing a box with getting to go hunting. If she shows any grouchiness at all, make her stay in the box while she hears the other dog hunt.
We have all heard stories about dogs that shared a box for years suddenly chew each other up. Don't risk another dog you care about in the box with her, especially if you have to drive a distance. In the close confines of a dog box, you may not have time to stop the truck, get out and pull them apart before serious damage is done.
I have one dog that isn't aggressive in the box, but I never let him share a box with a strange dog because he is restless--he doesn't lie down in the box. He spins around and stands, losing his footing on turns, etc. This annoys the heck out of a normal dog, provoking dogs that are normally good in a box into snapping at him. He is fine in the box with the other dogs from my place who know him and don't react to him toppling over on them when I slam on the brakes or take a sharp corner. If the dogs need to double up, I just take him in the cab with me.

First off, put her in last every time, even if you have to take her out first. Some dogs get possessive, some get scared because they were doubled with a gator. Another thing to try is to put her in with some rambunctious pups.
Put her in there with a dog that will make her tgink twice about it. Jmo
I agree she is still young and has the mind of a puppy.Every time it's happened I put her in last. She seems to not like other dogs smelling her.I'm gonna haul her solo for awhile.See how that works.

I am guessing you are hunting her with another dog and if so. When you are around there to watch I would start putting her in the same kennel with the other dog in the other dogs kennel not in hers. let her get used to being in the same pen as another dog. If you have a large enough dog house that could house 2 dogs put that in the kennel and let them sleep together. If she gets used to that then she shouldn't have a problem with another dog on her side of the box.

You might have a lifelong habit if she thinks the other dog has been shocking her, I would just haul her with a muzzle on for a while and see if she gets over it.

No she has no came in heat yet.I thought that may have been the cause when it first happened. Its been about a month since it first happened.John I agree that could cause a permanent problem. It shut it down till I could stop the truck.
i have one dog that is very aggresive to another dog, no matter where they are. i have to keep them separated. when i don't, i put a mozzle on her and the two of them play like little puppies. she is aggresive towards my plott some too but whenever she is, the plott gives her a good whipping.

I don't have any use for a pup that shows aggression or any dog for that matter but that's just my opinion...I don't like being crowded in Wal-Mart or standing in line somewhere but I'm not gonna get into a fight over it and neither should a dog...I hope you can get the problem fixed so you can keep the pup tho

box aggression comes from the dog feeling trapped. Its actually fear that causes it. They feel trapped and scared. A dog like that will BITE YOU also. I fully believe its hereditary. I been down this road and its UGLY. Is it a bluetick ?

When you are hunting on a competition cast with others and trying to limit the number of trucks, or just going out with a bunch of friends, its best not to draw attention to yourselves by parking a whole caravan of trucks by the side of the road.
Trying to put 4 dogs in one truck, they're usually doubled up.

Not only put her in the box last but put her in backwards, as in butt first. I have seen this work if they mainly get aggresive when first entering the box.

This will probably sound really stupid, when you haul her with another dog, put her in the box last and put her in BACKWARDS, yeah that's right, BACKWARDS. Load the other dog, then put her into the same hole with her butt to the open door, push her inside backwards. Leave the lead on he and watch her reaction, if she wants to fight get her out and repeat putting her in Backwards. You don't have to do this hunting, you can do it in the driveway, it works on some, not others. Most may growl a little, but not fight. Tom

Not sure really.Ive seen her growl and show her teeth.Never seen her actually grab another dog.I figured that is next. She might just be one of those dogs that don't take no crap.I hauled her solo tonight.Im gonna continue doing that until she matures alittle.
