how come breeding question

It seems like everyone wants to breed to nite champion and grand nite champion dogs. How come even if the dog doesn't have a nite champ or grand nite champ title, but has the pedigree and can tree coons, how come you don't see many pr crosses? Never had any coonhound that has had pups so I was just wondering.

My pups are a pr cross both dogs can tree the hell out of coon no slick trees just good back yard country coon dogs

Best question I've seen !!! Maybe because they'll be easier to sell out of a well known stud dog ? I make crosses out of proven reproducers most studs I have used were very old when I used them but I wouldn't care grand nite or pr as long as long they were no doubt a reproducer

Real simple answer. You would not no about a PR dog that is not local. No one breeds to local dog because that stud dog 2 states over has to be better then what these local boys have. Don't they?

That is right...and there is sometimes some jealousy thing going on too. I got no problem getting a pup off of PR' bred parents if I know them and they are good dogs...when I got back into it 1 1/2 years ago I just slap didn't know any of the local dogs. I bought a Mr. Clean bred walker pup and a Piazon bluetick pup not for the titles of the parents but because there was some information available about them.
I don't know if its fair to say people breed to titles for the money...most guys selling pups aren't making money doing it. If you want a pup out of what you got you will need to be able to somehow get rid of the rest of the litter...the right titles help but even more important the right reproducers help. Piazon pups are a little hard to come by these days, I was lucky to get the one I did.

Because we've seen those the "good uns" tied out behind a pleasure hunters barn and weren't so impressed with them. I prefer to breed to a dog that has proven himself to be a good un in the hunts rather than rely on cousin Homer and Uncle Jed's testimony that they are a good un and could tear the hunts up if their owner so desired.

Check out Hobo and his SwampMusic Pride Kennels you want see all those all gr.nt.ch pedigrees but every pup he raises is sold before they are born.

If you love the Boone and Sacket Jr.bloodlines this is the bloodlines for you.

Look like coon dogs sound like coon dogs and slobber treeing coon dogs.

Yeah Hobo has a proven track record behind him,
Hobo used to go to the hunts, maybe he will say why he stopped, If my memory is correct, Pride's sire, Gr.Ch.'PR' Swampmusic Boone had a First and I believe a Ninth when Hobo stopped to campaign him, is my memory right Hobo? Wild Bill is another hunter on here with a for real stud dog in "PR"Prince,,,, if you want the House stock, I think Prince is having issues with low sperm count, but Bill still breeds his own dogs,,

You have a perfect memory... It's better than mine. LOL I had forgotten about the 9th place until a few weeks ago. Boone won the very first hunt I put him in and then placed 9th at the Va state hunt one year. He was in a few other cast after the Va state hunt but wouldn't stay treed with another dog. As far as I know he was never eaten up at a tree he just didn't like being pushed around at all and they didn't have to be aggressive doing it.

I had Pride in a couple of hunts when he was younger and none of the cast never did anything.

I use to really enjoy the comp hunts but they just lost their appeal to me for some reason. I'm sure if Boone or Pride had of had a nt ch degree I would have bred a few more outside females, BUT in my opinion if you are just breeding for titled dogs you are breeding for the wrong reasons.

I've had people ask me about them not having a hunt title and I've always offered to take anyone hutning with any of my dogs whenever they wanted to go.

On this site it's all about titles. Local classified always have country coon PR dogs in it. Or flea markets. The only benefit I see choosing a titled dog to breed is the peace of mind knowing they're "supposed" to be a coon dog.

Pride is about 90% retired from hunting. It's not that he can't get it done anymore, it's more I'm hunting young dogs off of him and dont want him teaching them to blow through the woods like Lobo taught Boone and Boone taught him to do.
