Arkie

I'm interested in the responses to this myself. My son picked up a pup that goes back to 75%+ Arkie on the top side, with a smaller Arkie dose on the bottom. She also has doses of Jet, Smokey River, Vaughn and uchtman on the bottom. The pup is 4 months old now and smart as a whip. When I take her in the woods she's hunting..not playing. In the process now of trapping her a coon so she knows what she's hunting. Time will tell but we have high hopes.

It would depend on which and what Arkie you were talking about...........

Arkie

Cline, I have not been able to get much out of folks on it either. At least you know he was a grnc and gc, which to me means he treed coons and looked good doing it. Maybe he had a bunch of bad stuff too but he was a coon dog. And with the old true Vaughn stuff on top side and with grandsire like Slifes Blue Rambo and grand dam like uchtmans blue angel... I can't see that being a real bad deal? You know those dogs treed coons with looks to spare. I too would like to hear some opinions from folks who have hunted the Littlejohns Arkie line though.

I have a grandson to him and Clear River Diamond Jim, he has some age on him. He is a coondog, great nose, great mouth and accurate. I have him bred to my gyp that is Smokey River/Utchman bred. I think it will be a good cross.

I HAD A MALE OUT OF LITLEJOHNS ARKIE. I REALLY ENJOYED HUNTING THIS DOG. HE COULD REALLY TREE AND WENT HUNTING FROM THE SNAP OF LEASH. ONLY PROBLEM HE HAD WAS HE WAS 98 % SILENT ON TRACK. WHEN HE BARKED HE WAS LOOKING UP AND MOSTLY ALWAYS HAD COON. HE WAS NOT ENTERED IN A NITE HUNT DUE TO BEING SILENT AND I DID NOT WANT TO LISTEN TO THE CRYING. HE WAS A GOOD LOOKING HOUND DARK BLUE. GOOD AROUND KENNEL YOU DID NOT KNOW HE WAS THERE. I FINISHED HIM TO GRAND ON BENCH. I NEVER BRED HIM AND KICK MYSELF ALL THE TIME FOR IT. WISH I HAD ANOTHER LIKE HIM.

Littlejohn's Arkie

Just about everthing I own right now goes back to Littlejohn's Arkie, one way or another. They suit me for what I use them for. They start easy and don't need a lot of breaking from bad habits.

Mr. Perryman,

Can you tell me anything about some of these dogs that show on my pups pedigree?

Arkie Dooley

Littlejohn's Blue Dazie

Littlejohn's Bl Indian Squaw

GRNC Anderson's Track Down Sioux

GNCH GC Littlejohn's Blue Rock

Littlejohn's Blue Sadie

GC NC Lazy J Blu Arkie

Denton's Ark Blue River

Vailbrug Blue Slim

Gr Ch Brinkley's Blue Rip Brundy

Watson's Blue Maggie

GNCH GC Castleberry's Rebel II

Of course Littlejohn's Little Arkie (shows up 4-5 times just on my pups top side)

There's a lot more that are Vaughn or go straight back to Elbert Vaughn's line.

Are these dogs typical in the Littlejohn's Arkie Pedigrees of your dogs? I also noticed Smokey River JBS Chief. Is that typical in Littlejohn's Arkie breeding too?

Posted by Pine Log Kennel on 02-19-2015 01:12 AM:

Im gonna guess you made a typo on the lazy J dog........

I think the dog would have been Lazy J Arkie Chief.......

If not please correct me......

If so what bitch was he bred to in your dogs pedigree??

I would really like to see a copy of the pedigree to see how all of this shakes out........

Arkie Chief will probably be the closest bred Tahsudas Arkie dog in your pedigree. Pete

The Arkie Chief dog was from Gr Nt Ch Gr Ch Horse Branch Blue Bawler and Gr Nt Ch Gr Ch Blue Bio Blue Penny. I gave him to Allan Waggoner as a pup. Kenny Jones got him when he was 7 years old. Bawler was directly out of John Tahsudas' Arkie and Penny was a grand daughter of Arkie's. The Arkie Dooly dog was directly out of Arkie also and was owned by Jess Rogers. Lots of my friends had dogs from the Littlejohns Arkie dogs and there were certainly some real dogs. You are talking about two different strains within our breed when you talk about Arkie dogs and then Littlejohns Arkie dogs. There are some common relations but not one in the same.

Pete, I did omit the Chief part. Sorry...It was hiding from me on the pedigree. The dog on my pedigree is "Grch nitech pr Lazy J Blu Arkie Chief". On my pedigree he was bred to Grnitech Grch Cascade Sadie and produced Lazy J Blue Alibi, which was bred to Littlejohns Little Arkie next generation down.

CWbluebio, so it sounds like I have Littlejohns Arkie breeding but with a little Tashudas mixed in? I'd post pedigree but I'm not sure I could pull it off on my phone...laptop currently broke.

For some reason I had it figured it was the cross with cascade sadie you would have, and had it figured for Alibi also........

She was bred to Littlejohns Arkie, I think CW had a female from that cross named Peaches??.....he could chime in more on that I may be wrong......

Alibi had a littermate sister named Lazy J Blue Gal that I have incorporated into what i hunt. I also have semen stored on a double Arkie Chief grandpup.

steve needs to get more of his stock in Michigan love the arkie and rock dog.

Pete,

Alibi shows up top and bottom on my pups top side. Is that a good thing or not? Obviously she was out of fine blood but did it pass to her? Was she a good coon dog?

I'm curious if you and CW have a page on here for your dogs with pedigrees? That would help me see the difference in these two Arkie lines CW is talking about.

I may give you a call if it's okay. We've talked before but I'm not sure you remember. I think I still have your number if that's okay?

Yes I remember very well, call anytime.

I never hunted with Alibi, although she was a littermate to Gal, I really know nothing about her first hand, I did hear she was a hard going heifer, and a big girl to boot........said to have been topping the height standards, but never laid eyes on her........I do trust the sources I heard about her form though........

Please call CW and I both, he is way more knowledgeable than i am on some of these dogs, when it comes to the vaughn style dogs, the arkie dooley dog, and many more of those dogs that were right here in my back yard, if I didnt hunt with them my dad or grandpa did, I can ride a bicycle to Elberts homeplace............

There were people that bred these dogs that were coonhunters, and there were people that bred these dogs that were puppy peddlers, and still are..........

Call anytime, thanks, Pete

I hunted one nite with a dog they called arkie from Dover ark. Back in the mid 90s. Could have this been one of the arkie dogs you guys are talking about.
