is there anything u can do to help a pregnant gyp

to start producing milk.

have a gyp that is a couple fo weeks out from having the litter, and it looks like its going to be a big one. is there anything i can give or feed her that will help speed up the process of her producing milk, just want to make sure she is going to have enough to go around

I don't know if this really helps but some of the local hunters and me always feed the female Purina Puppy Chow with the whitish powder on it. WE mix powdered milk and add to it and feed her that. Never had a problem with a female producing milk but never didn't do it this way. We usually start about two weeks prior to the due date and continue while she is nursing heavy. Then, wean the pups asap on the same mix, just let it get softer at first. Before you know it you will have 12 or 13 fat little puppies slopping down as much as you can feed them and a mother with that "thank god" look on her face.

I have raised few litters but the ones I have, I used the same routine on all of them and had milk to spare.
Diamond Extreme Athlete twice a day with 1/2 pound canned mackeral added for both feelings. And a Pet Tab every day. I have no idea if the Pet Tab helps at all but I'm fairly sure it don't hurt. That's my routine.

Be VERY CAREFUL about adding calcium to a pregnant gyps diet. You can mess them up far worse then you'll be helping them. Just switch her to Diamond Nat Large Breed puppy or whatever pup feed you plan on feeding the pups. If her milk hasn't dropped 12 hours after she whelps the vet can give her an injection to help. I'm betting she will be fine tho.

NEVER give a pregnant bitch extra calcium in any form. AFTER the first pup is born given her LOTS of it. Orally - ice cream, cottage cheese, calcium citrate pills, cheese, etc. And fenugreek capsules until she smells like maple syrup.

Once she has them pups start her on pro plan puppy feed...feed her all she can eat .. Never let her run out of water.always keep fresh water on front of her..make sure you start worming them pups with a mild wormer at 4weeks.Nemex wormer is a good choice. And i worm them once a week.Once you start feeding them pups feed them that same proplan feed....the puppy feed...

Alot of additives are to simply intice them into drinking, the better hydrated they are the more milk they have in most cases. I do give them 2 tea packets a day of Herbal red raspberry tea to help relax and soften uterus ( I ALWAS give them the tea!)
