Is there a new tick disease in sw. Va.?

I've heard there's such a disease that can render a top hound to be useless. If you know of this disease, what are the symptoms? Is there a treatment for a complete recovery? Lyme and rocky mtn. are the only tick diseases I know of. I welcome all info. on this that anyone may have.

Ehrlichia. It is hard on a dogs joints. There is a antibiotic that helps but once they have it it can flare up. My vet said it came over from Vietnam with the guard dogs that the military used. It is very bad around.d here.

My gyp got something 2 years ago. She couldn't handle tracks wouldn't tree very good, just went stupid on me. She went from grnt ch class to a cull in 3 months. Had her checked out and the only thing that they found was lymes. Treated her for a month on doxycycleen but I don't think she never fully recovered from it. She still can get it done and looks good but not what she was. I could be the one to blame, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I would treat my dogs just never on a strict regimen.

Thanks Arkieboy & Gladerunkennels:

My friend has a hound with the above mentioned symptoms. For five yrs. he was better than average and now he has gone "stupid" too. Is there a sure-fire preventative for this disease?

There is a lymes vaccine that you can give them but if they have it I think they need to be on anti biotics first then the shot and every year after that. Helps to keep a flee and tick medicine on them so they have less chance of the deer ticks biting them. I know the deer ticks were real bad for a few years up here and still are in places. There is one place we call ticky dickies because if you walk through there I grant you, you'll pick 15 or more off your body.
