A thought crossed my mind, seeing if anyone else has had it.

I have a nice Redbone male, NITECH CH'PR' Wiley's Hillbilly Jack and have had a couple of guys contact me about using him in an x-breed program.

I'm a redbone guy to the bone, but I'm not colorblind by any means as I've owned nice ones from everything but Plott, and Lepord (I haven't owned one of either).

When they started to talking, I started to thinking. I wouldn't mind seeing a Redbone x English litter to see what they've got. I would like to think that it would have a good chance of making a good well balanced hound with plenty of brains, nose, tree, and drive.

What do you guys as English men think?

Here is what Jack looks like, and a link to his stud page. (which has a link to a thread that recorded nearly every hunt he had up until he made NITECH)

I knew a guy that used to make Redbone X English crosses. He swore by them. Several bear hunter's do the same. Coon dog X Coon dog or Bear hound X Bear hound works. If you decide to make those crosses be prepaired to have a redtick colored litter it seems to dominate. I have seen the redbone look with ticked feet... Good Luck

Mr. Cartwright,

Thanks for the good wishes.

I don't mind the ticking on a dog, as a matter of fact, the Red Tick variety of English Hounds are my favorite.

I still remain confident that dong a Redbone x English cross would produce a good chance of making a good well balanced hound with plenty of brains, nose, tree, and drive. And that's what I'm looking for, well balanced hounds that can both win AND be a meat dog.

Thanks again for the kind words and wishes.

Best of luck and health to all.

Kent
