-- which stud? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=928403939)
which stud?
Im completely uneducated when it comes to the english breed so im seeking wisdom. If you guys had a nice english female ab 5 yrs old and a COON-DOG.... what stud would you use. This female goes hunting alone or with company. not one ill hair on her. will not pull when she trees. she is almost silent on track unless its hot. when she tress its every breath chop mouth. best handle on a dog ive ever seen. she is a good track dog as well. she is LIGHTFOOT bred on top and HARDTIME on bottom. Im not looking for the stud dog most advertised or has all the colored ads. I want a dog that can run a track heads up, trees every breath, dont just blow through the country to be running. this female is level headed and smart as a rocket scientist. I want the stud to be the same and most important HE HAS TO BE A PROVEN REPRODUCER OF COON TREEING OFFSPRING. She aint perfect cause on a good moonlite night she will tree the fire out of a grinner. never tried to break her, just scold her good and she goes on. in a perfect world what i would like the stud to contribute is a million dollar mouth with a locate hellen keller could call. want him to add as much good sense to his pups as the female has. so with that very large laundry list of hopes, what would you english guys suggest.
Look at Main Street Dino Seth Isch! Big mouth track driving sob that puts all of that and brains in his pups. I breed a female to him just like the one you are describing and am very happy with the pups all started early big mouths and accurate tree dogs!

James Willard would be a great cross if you are wanting what you described Willard is a dual purpose hound that has brains that comes with the background of dual purpose hounds with brains but if your looking for something with more Crome on it I'm sure the Dino dog would be a great cross also by the way your Gip is bred it would be hard to mess up on whatever you decide any time you want to go for a hunt give us a holler would like to go hunting anyways no matter what the outcome we are not that far good luck and give us a holler

Freddy Fender has a huge locate a kid can call . Take all the pressure you can put on a dog, run a track with his head up. Loaded up Hardtime blood . Has a million $$$$$ mouth . Call Bo Moore 606-782-0535
Well if your are wanting to hang onto that silent trailing trait, a lot of the Briar Creek stuff I hunted against seemed to be pretty tight, but pretty good track dogs If you are wanting to improve on striking ability, I think Jesse Lee would be a good candidate. Its really more about what traits you want to hang on to and which ones you wouldn't mind so much if they disappeared.
By the way, I'm curious, How does a man tell he has a good track dog, when they don't bark on the ground. My garmin doesn't tell me when they hit a track, it only tells me when they get treed, LOL.

Thanks guys I really appreciate all the responses. Ur correct the Garmin doesn't say tracking....I said she is almost silent..so on a hot track I know how she moves it. I don't live where the coons are running everywhere so when this dog leaves out and I watch her trail on my Garmin and she gets treed faster than most....I know she ran a pretty good track. I also can road hunt this dog and have often. When you see her throw that big male dog head up and leave out on a dead run and not open a bit then get treed 800 yards away in the time it it takes a lot of dogs to figure out they think they smell a coon....that tells me and this is only my opinion, that she has a real good nose and knows how to use it and how to move it...she don't walk on water and she has a few minor holes but I like her...good point about what traits I'd like to see stay out of pups....I wish she wasn't so silent...I like a dog that uses there mouth to let you know where they are and where there going..not a babbler...,I think the light foot blood can take a lot of the credit for her nose..I really like her HARDTIME and light foot combination. I hope I can maximize her good traits and even add to them with the right stud...keep those ideas and opinions coming. Also I want to add mouth volume to the offspring...
I have CH. GRANDNITECH. PKCCH. LITTLE RIVER RED SPOOK for stud. He is a full brother to PKCWORLDCH. HARDTIME AWESOME. He won the AMERICAN HERITAGE HUNT and the CYSTIC FIBROSIS HUNT a few years ago and was also in the top 20 in the UKC WORLD a few years back. He has several more impressive wins. SPOOK is smarter than most kids and so are the pups I've seen from him. He is a 2015 PERFORMANCE SIRE and a 2015 PKC SUPER STAKES SIRE. He is a get gone quick, get treed quick type dog that does not pull and is very accurate. SPOOK knows how to tree coon quickly when they are thin and not moving. I just bred him to my SANDY female a while back and she had 12 pups. All were houndy, smart and none were shy. We aren't really trying to push him hard with the public but I hate to see him not being bred when a good female comes in heat. We mainly got him to breed to our females. Randy Leonard raised, trained and finished SPOOK out. I will still show him in the woods most any night. He still gets the job done quickly and efficiently. In my opinion, he is as good as any stud being offered today, he was just never pushed due to Travis Smith's relentless work schedule. SPOOK only had 6 registered pups when I got him. A gentleman in Pennsylvania turned down $5,000 for one of those pups and two were killed on the road that were cranking and one had two 1st place wins at 8 months old and was killed in a nite hunt. I was told he was leading the cast when he got ran over with a car. Remember this when choosing a stud or vice versa... Look for a dog that is out of a proven cross because those hounds from proven crosses are from a srtong gene pool. I strongly believe that hounds from outstanding crosses reproduce well. The cross that produced SPOOK not only was proven but produced a WORLD CHAMPION that is also reproducing and that cross was made more than once. It was definitely one of the best crosses ever made on SWAMP CAT and some believe it was the best. If interested pm me or call me at 606-282-3081. Thanks
HARDTIME and LUMIS breeding at its best!!
In my opinionif at all possible I'd go hunting with a few studs and or something off them and see if they suited my desires in a hound. There's so many dogs today being offered at stud today and some pushed hard with Ad after Ad and others pushed by word of mouth by friends etc, and some not pushed at all only by results of being bred to few local females.
Even after hunting with several and finding something you like doesn't guarantee you'll get the results you are want but, at least you will know you bred her to something you hunted with or offspring of his that had some charaistics you liked.
I have two hounds here TURBO and HAWK both are open mouth, one way track dogs that have cold noses and can grub up old feeder tracks most can't even open on and put a coon up the right tree most of the time but are far from perfect.
They both have good mouths with locates a kid could easily call and are pretty decent tree dogs. I also have offspring off both that I like very well, not off one cross but off different females and they aren't old seasoned offspring they are under two years old although there are several around that are about four off TURBO that folks would happily show.
Hope you find what you're looking for either way and you're welcome to come hunt these ole dogs anytime, they are coon treeing hounds with color, mouth, tracking ability, accurate but are not robots. Good luck

super pups I agree with you that you should hunt with some studs before making a decision on what to breed to and they are a lot of good studs out there , the ones mentioned and some that has not been mentioned and I do agree with Brian that a lot of hounds from outstanding crosses reproduce well, because of the balance in my opinion and some people get that and some people don't , you can have the best of the best but that don't mean your going to get the best or vise versa and come up with something good , every dog needs something I have not seen a perfect one yet , just some of them have a little more crome on them , one of the best I've ever owned was from and old man that you never herd nothing about out behind the barn and by looking at him you wouldn't think he would bust a grape . There's no guarantee in hounds , you just outway your options and believe you've made the right cross.

Stud?
Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Are there any lightfoot bred studs in or around this area. I'd like to see some of them as well.. This female is out of lightfoot dagger...looks like there are several quality HARDTIME bred males to look at. Also lets hear some opinions on the lightfoot stock.
Come hunt with blaze, he can work up yesterdays track and put a coon on the end. He has also produced some real nice offspring. Pm me if interested.

If you're looking for light foot blood. Call randy Gibson in wv. He is a good of a guy in the business. He knows what a coondog is and doesn't feed one if it ain't a coon dog. He packs a good hound and is well respected in the English world. He describes a dog for what it is and has owned several good ones throughout the years. You can't go wrong working with Randy. He's first class all the way. Good luck with your choice there's a lot of good ones out there.
