tracker question?

Got a quick question.. I am using a tracker classic system with strike collars. Has anyone ever used 2 of the half sized batteries in the collar instead of one regular size batteries. I have read in several places that this could increase the range of tracking with the collar. I have never used those and was just wandering about it. I know I'm outdated lol
