garmin accessories
So I just bought a 320/dc50.
I see tons of accessories.. Antennas, carrying holsters, pouches, clips, etc etc
What are the "must have" things?? Do you guys get better performance from different antennas or anything??
What about maps? I want 1:24 maps and Birdseye. Where is the best place to get the maps? I want the 1:24 maps because I will use it as a GPS marking deer locations etc as well...not just coon hunting...I just need PA and eastern Ohio really...
So many options for maps and accessories I figured y'all can help me out..

I haven't seen a ton of difference in any of the antennas. Seen a few that may get a little better range but to me that extra 200-300 yards or so isn't really worth the money but I run bear dogs where the dogs run miles so it doesn't make a huge difference. Coon hunting I guess it would. I use the long antenna that came with the 320 and get pretty good range and I hunt in some pretty serious mountains in western va. Outdoordogsupply.com does make a long antenna that gets a little better range than the one from garmin if you find you're not happy with it. What's really nice if your dogs have a tendency to get a ways from you or if you hunt in rough country is a whip antenna on your truck if you so please. You can buy the short one from garmin but its the same price as the 48" whip and that gets double the range. If you don't have a vest for hunting the belt pouches are nice bcuz I just feel a little better about it bein there than in my pocket. Really it just comes down to whatever would work best for you bcuz, like you said, there are a ton of accessories out there for the garmins.

Whip attenna
where did you buy your whip for the Garmin.
I don't have one but all the guys I bear hunt with do. Several places sell em but the one at outdoordogsupply.com does really good.

You can get it on a bracket mount or a magnet mount. Think it's around $45.

I put a topo card in mine and got a Gizz Mo cover that will protect the unit , Conkeys Supply will treat you right. I have never needed the long range antenna that came with the unit. Mine will go 3 tenths to 1/2 mile with out the extra antenna. This is the best thing I have ever had, love it.

Fold down telescopic antenna
Fold down telescopic antenna. Mounts on the handheld, stays on the handheld. Extends to 16 inches. Cost $25 or less. Well worth the money.
I just run the stock antenna's on DC30 collars. When I added the 16'' folding antenna (Astro 220), the range improved at least 40% in all situations.
This is what I needed here in east central IL. Sometimes I hunt flat land, sometimes hills and hollers. It will reach 2.5 miles in real good conditions. Will reach .75 miles in hills and hollers. If dogs get real deep we can usually drive around. In the truck it really helps. Put the window down an inch or so, extend the antenna out the window.
I haven't needed a magnet mount truck antenna. Those who have them around here really like them. They get 3 miles out of them.

They also have those whip antennas.

For the guys thats running marine band radios. You can actually use youre marine antenna for a long range antenna. Just have to get the adapter for it.
