True Story
You know friends are more important then hounds ever could be. Sometimes we forget that. This past year Timber Valley Ten was elected in the HOF. Thanks for the people that hunted her line of dogs and the people that voted for her. Without you this would not of happen. I wish everyone could get a plaque.
Returning home I knew what I had to do,I had to make things right with someone that been with me every step of the way with these dogs. I had a litter of pups and which I got in the middle of my best friend and someone that drove a long ways to get a pup. I promised my friend a pup which we had two others to sell. They were out of Huck and Ten. The guy came up and wanted that pup and I told him we were going to keep it. He gets mad tells me he drove up here over 10 hours and he wants that pup or he going to get mad. He was going to tell everyone about it. I was in a rock and a hard place. So I called my best friend asking him what should we do. I should of sent the guy home as my best friend got upset and we never talked for sometime. I felt awful.
So this past year I ordered a plaque for him with Ten and thank him for his help.
We started talking even though I not in the hounds like I used to be. Folks Chip Wisecup been every step of the way with these dogs from taking Gr Nt Ch Blue Magic Gold over to ISU Vet clinic watching Gr Nt Ch Gr Ch Timber Valley Lucky being born, going to Walt Raffle with Randy Salisbury in a winter storm to pick up Pine Knob Durango to make my dream come true to have a all grand litter with Lucky. That was Chip and I dream of mating Durango to Lucky to make the first all grand litter.
From Blue Bell, Gold, Lucky, Ten, Queen, Durango all these dogs in the HOF except Queen he been there every step of the way. From Lucky when only about six months overheating as she saw her first coon as her hair went up. To the time I about killed Lucky as she jumped from a lean tree when Chip was looking up to see if she had the coon holding on to Durango. Lucky jumped in hit Chip in the head a prize fighter could not blow a better punch. Down went Chip passed out and I did not know what to do. Chip woke up spitting River water as it had sand in it. He says how in the hell did I get sand in my mouth. We put it there. Lol .To Larry Wilcox helping me train Lucky with Wilcox Thunder Bingo. Thank You Larry. To Ten seeing her tree her first coon alone at 12 weeks, yes 12 weeks when we saw a two coon cross the road and go up and a tree. We turned Lucky loose and then the pup. Ten treed the coon that we saw in the tree and Lucky treed the other. We have witnesses .
Chip been my friend behind the scenes and and every hunter has them. Without him my success would of never happen. Chip sometimes never got the credit he deserve . With this visit he started hunting again, I do have a couple of dogs here that I still hunting. Chip and I think a like because we did this together. I have promised him I will be on the sideline and go to some hunts with him. I do not have the fire in me once I had but who knows if their anyone that might get me going again it is Chip Wisecup . Also Jeff Kathman been there with these dogs not as long as Chip but Jeff as good as guy you will fine. Thanks Everyone for you help. I do not post on here much but as always willing to help . We are good.

Friends have good times and bad times. Now we have had both. I have some unfinished plans and you are part of them. Some of my best lifetime memories have included our trips to Larry's, Jim's, Jason's, and others.

I look forward to making trips to Mike Jameson's, Freddy Well's, Dee Powells, Del Hudsons and now Sandy Creek English in West Virginia.

Maybe im getting mellow in my old age . Maybe finally putting up my light changed my point of view. What ever the reason, though the hounds and improving on them is always the goal, its the friendships made that endure and are important. Im guilty as anyone of burning a bridge or two myself though. That was wrong.

Had it not been for John Ferarri, I would have never owned GRNTCHGRCH Robinsons English Looser. IMO the finest example of coondog perfection I have ever fallowed.

If Chip ever gets those new Durango pups, and I ever get the chance to strap that light on one more time and fallow a Durango pup one last night..........I hope you are there as well John. It wouldn't come full circle if you were not.

going up to see Chip and judge the merits of a dog named Durango....a coonhunt that came about in the process, with a young female named "Lucky" also present that night (and if I remember right Gold was there too) that's a journey that began what..........20?????yrs ago?? it has to end with all of us and a pup that carries the blood we hunted that night.

Well Larry,

Hopefully everyone will see Durango pups again this summer. The plan is to use the semen this year on a couple of select females. I have had quite a few offers to sell it, but I am not keen on the idea of selling something I can't guarantee.

I just got in from making 9 trees with Jeff Kathman. We hunted three hounds and lets just say I can't shoot any better now than I could 20 years ago

I wish they had a like button also.. It would make life easier. Hope to make it down your way this summer sometime. What's your hunting like during the summer? I have some time off (May20-Aug13) it would be nice to get together for a few night.

our summer hunting is awesome imo. our corn matures earlier than yours so that's a big bonus. also its FLAT around here, and as much as I love hunting around Boone, that cant hurt either .

may is also when our mulberries get ripe and that always makes for some fun hunts...on into june when the blackberries ripen. our kitten coon are out and about that time of year and that's always fun.

july and august can be brutal with the heat and humidity, but I always make sure I hunt the river bottems and large lake areas that time of year so the dogs work water a lot. helps. a guy sure wants to keep pups away from corn fields as much as possible that time of year, because the races in them can burn a pup up fast.

glad to see you are using that semen. I wasn't sure if you had found anything worthy of it or not.

no worries on shooting ability, im still the crack shot I always was :P.

Hunting is hit and miss that time of year. Usually have some pretty good hunts in May and June provided that a thunderstorm isn't in the forecast. Hot and humid, but bearable that time of year. July and August is usually hot and dry. That time of year, I usually don't go until after midnight when it cools down a little. Your welcome here anytime and would love to take you for a hunt. I hunt a good size ranch with one entrance and no fear of nearby roads or crazy landowners.

It's been so good to be back in the woods. I am very lucky to live in a state where we can hunt with hounds all year.

We have everything lined up for the first Durango semen to be used. Greg Shores will use the semen with his Kate Female.

I have one other female lined up just waiting to get her to IOWA and hunt her. This will be the second dose.

I will keep everyone updated on the third dose.
I am thinking about opening it up to the females on the current reproducers list if the Gr. Nt. Ch out of Triple X doesn't work out.

Anyone have suggestions?

If you have a female on the current reproducing list and you are interested in trying to raise Durango's last litter. Give me a PM and we can visit.

I would give a vote for GR NITE CH Ragan's Hardtime Jewel. Del Hudson from Memorymaker English owns her. I don't know if he would entertain the breeding, you will have to ask him.

Jewel is directly out of Del's Dual Grand Nashoba Valley Roller and GR NITE CH Long's Hardtime Rose.

Rose was a littermate sister to GR NITE CH Hardtime SwampCat and GR NITE CH Ashley's Red Cloud. My Dual Grand Yogi dog carries a ton of this blood on his sire's side through Roller, Cat and the Carter Long blooded females. That cross should produce good mouths and tree dogs.

Just my vote I've wanted a female out of Jewel for a while now, but it seemed like every time Del made a cross, I was loaded with pups.

I have had quite a few PM's . I'm answering them all now. I actually put a post in the Stud Dog and Kennel Promotion thread also.

It is going to take a breeder who is willing to gamble on the semen working.

It will be interesting what kind of response we get... I am truly hoping that I get to use it on the Grand Night out of Triple X , but if not it is easy to see that Jewell would be a good possibility.

I don't make many recommendations, but one thing I do is always fallow my gut. My gut tells me the absolute best cross in the entire breed for Durango semen will come from 1 of 2 places.

1) a direct daughter of Barber Creek Ace.

2) one of the females out of Frank X Cry Baby (if any are left) or a direct pup out of something out of that cross. Cinderella comes to mind as she is also out of Ruby.

I base that on A) past experience with those lines and crosses and B) past experience with Durango pups.

just my 2 cents worth........which is just about exactly what its worth

Frank and Cry have one female which is a NT. CH with 4 wins left. However, she is getting old. She is going to be granded out this year and bred to BJ. I visited with Ron in August and he was very interested in making a cross. Right before Christmas we discussed the options, but with her being so old we aren't sure if she will settle. Time will tell.
Trillion is one nice looking female. Big houndy style dog with a lot of style. 8 years ago she was the number one choice. That's why I bought and trained a litter mate to your looser hound. I had a full littermate sister that I trained and then gave back to Ron and Troy when I quit hunting and went back to college. Nightmare was the last pup I trained before quitting. She was to be bred to Durango semen back then........ I let time slip by me and those females are all gone or really old.

Trillion was a SUPER nice built hound. IMO Loose was the best built male in the cross but Trillion was my favorite of the females. I could just never get her bought. Like Loose, her ability in the woods matched her looks on the bench. A true Duel purpose hound.

she should be.........8 or 9 now??? that's about the same age as Ruby was when I bought her and bred her to Loose

Trillion is almost 10. Yes, she is one nice looking hound. Ron and Troy both want to hunt next week. We are planning on going up to their place if the Iowa weather holds out for us. We have had a great year so far.

Trillion has never been bred. Ron has one other dog on the place. He said he hasn't hunted for quite a while. The hounds are fat and sassy and ready to roll... lol lol

I'll try to take some pics when I get up there.

And I agree....He made some awesome crosses. He was hunting his Cry Baby female the same time I was hunting Ten. We drew each other several times. It was always fun to see which hound would have the den and which hound would have the coon.They split treed from each other 90% of the time. Both hounds were awesome females. They both hunted well and reproduced.

I can't wait for the spring hunts to start up.... sitting here during the winter and remembering all those hunts.. make a heart grow fonder. LOL

Im with ya on the remembering old hunts. I have a couple of videos of Loose I watch and listen too every once in awhile when the coon huntin bug hits me. I have one that has JJ and Dolly in it too, and I think one of Queen on one of my old laptops or a jump drive around here somewhere.

if I could find it I even have one of my old Hooker pup (out of Durango X Racket)

weird fact........for some reason I never got around to getting one of Ruby...just never thought of it I guess.
