Bear Hunters w/Hounds in NC - Graham county

I debated cross-posting this, but I feel that ALL parts of the dog world need to work together to maintain our reputation with the public.

I don't hunt with hounds, but I fully support those that do. This came across my Facebook feed, and while I cannot speak to why this young lady was on the mountain during bear season, I think it is worth sharing. Hopefully someone on this forum can help.

Please help me!

My sister and her two dogs were mauled by a pack of bear hunting hounds while camping in the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina this past Monday. She fought off the dogs with a stick and a tent stake for 45 minutes waiting for the hunters to show up. During that time, she sustained bites to her hands and legs, one of her dogs was almost killed and the other one may require surgery to recover from a life-threatening abdominal injury.

The hunters had little to no control of their dogs when they showed up. They offered my sister no help in getting off them mountain or in seeking medical attention for herself or her dog. In fact, the dogs were loosed on the mountain again before my sister was safely back inside her car.

We need help finding these guys before someone else gets hurt. They would have been camping in the Snowbird Wilderness area in Graham County, North Carolina at least on Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th. Any information regarding the identities of this men should be reported to the Graham County Sheriff's Department at (828) 479-3352.

Please re-post, especially if you live in or have friends in the Carolinas or a neighboring state. Somebody might know something that could help us find these men.

Further update on the pack:

"I have noticed that some people are asking for a description of the dogs. The pack was predominantly plott hound, and I believe they were mixed with something as several of them were shorter and stockier. There was a young red bone hound (<1 yr) also. There was a foxhound who was not involved in the attacks but was part of the pack of hunting dogs. One of the dogs who did not attack but was part of the pack had a freeze brand on its side "S2"."

Didn't know there were people runnin attack dogs on bear. Doesn't really make much sense. Not enough to make me believe it. Can't say I've ever seen dogs quit a bear to randomly attack anything, and definitely not the whole pack.

Hmm I must say this seems a little fishy. They say law enforcement is not helping them, no media is ether, and the lack of photos of these so called serious injuries are not normal for a case like this if true.

No pics, no law ,no news .

Not real . Just trying to give hound hunters bad names . I'd say dogs ran a bear infront of her and startled her but they didn't maul her.

Although I am not a hunter, I support responsible hunters and believe that all dogs should have the legal right to participate in those jobs for which they were bred. We should all be aware of anything that might negatively affect the sport of dogs. There is no indication on the Facebook page created to tell this story that the victim and her family are anti-hunter. The story ran as the top story this evening on WLOS, the ABC news affiliate in Asheville, NC. It will run again at 11:00 pm as a live feed. Click on the little red camera towards the top of their page on the left hand side... http://www.wlos.com/
If individuals are on that mountain with dogs that would leave the trail of their bear to do something like this, then other hunters and their dogs are also in danger...
