Daniel Lancaster has a pair in Wisconsin that he bred a few years back that produced 3 dual champions out of a litter of 11 I believe, all made coon dogs, a few have never been competition hunted, one was spayed and never nite hunted, one got hit by a car and never nite hunted. so pretty high percentage for the ones that lived and got put in the hunts. I believe they may possibly be the only 3 dogs to be put in a hunt out of the litter, but everyone was very happy with the hide dogs they got. One of the dual ch. has never been in a bigger hunt and the other two have both placed at bluetick days, one was 5th place this year sat. nite open, ch nitech dd riverbend blue daisy, and ch nitech sns of squaw crks blu hank was 2nd runner up in the 2013 invitational hunt at bboa days.
DD riverbend blue Bucky x grch DD riverbend Blue kayt
Kayt is utchmen bred and bucky goes back to Jackhammer, B&D blue spike, Bissels northern blue daisy...all in his 3 or 4 generation papers. he made the cross again recently here. pups aren't born yet.

high %
I know for fact that 8 out of 10 pups out of Piazon and Alice made Nite Ch. Best cross I have ever heard of or seen. Mike and myself was going to make the cross again until Danny offered us more than we wanted to turn down. Now a year later I wish we would of kept her and made the cross again. Outstanding coon dogs out of this cross.
Jane will be bred to piazon first of the year.
Hope for same numbers.

Do you guys and gals think that crossing dogs out of these good crosses would up the odds of the pups being good reproducers?

odds
Maybe I'm way off base. But I think We can increase the odds by breeding coondog to coondog.
It would also seem to me that if you can get 2 good coondogs together that came from good high% crosses that this would help to stack the deck in your favor a little bit more.
I'm like everyone else I want a coondog, but I would also like a coondog with the ability to pass those traits to the next generation a high percentage of the time.
Once again maybe I'm way off base, But it would seem to me that if We are going to raise the odds of our pups being good reproducers then their pedigrees should be stacked with good reproducing parents and grandparents.

IMO
IMO, the so called high percentage crosses are dubbed that after the fact. Nothing is cut in stone. Does anyone remember the Rambo II and Heather cross that produced all the Gr Nites out of one litter. I spoke with Jim Smalling on this cross and he informed me that this cross was made several times with only good success in that first litter. If there was such a thing as a high percentage cross, I would say that this would be it but considering how many made it from all the crossed from these two, it probably wasn't.
In years past, way before we started keeping score, how did we get a good coon dog? Word of mouth and hunting with the dogs we were interested in. Only when we started keeping track of all the Gr Nite and Nite Ch did we have a tool to use for figuring out how to choose. When this method came about it was much easier for people to pass on the not so qualified hounds, IMO. I've personally tried many times in the past to make the so called high percentage cross by going to some of the winningest Blueticks in the country with my good females but got average outcomes at best. Now, my average and yours may differ some so I'm just going on my standards. Some of my better crosses were made with the not so well known hounds. I remember one well know stud owner saying to me one time that if the pups turn out to be a success then they're out of my male and if not they're out of your female. Those are the words of a good promoter! I don't mean to sound pessimistic on this subject because there are some very qualified studs and bitches out there that will definitely improve our breed but we need to study first what we want in a hound and it's not always all rolled up in a piece of paper. This is just some food for thought and not meant to discredit any one or any dogs.
All this being said I believe that there were some dogs that left their mark. Hammer II, SR Diamond Jim and Chief, Jet V, Ucthman's Ranger and Hawk, Rambo II and one of the lesser used studs, Hindman's Broad Ax Blue Max. That is just a few of the more modern studs that produced well when crossed on different females but even breeding to these studs were no guaranteed high percentage crosses as they all had their share of duds as all dogs do. I didn't leave anyone out on purpose but it would be impossible to list all the dogs. Sorry so long but stuff just kept popping into my head, LOL. Thanks and have a wonderful day.
Spike and Elle cross, made several times with good results.nice hounds out of every cross.I agree with Ron on Alot of what he wrote.

Gr Nt Ch Joleen
T. Lee- Joleen is a Grand Night Champion. She has reproduced good hounds off everything she has been bred to. I own her with Cory Carlson.
Regardless of what "method" of breeding or selection an individual subscribes to any time you can stack the deck of probability in your favor it helps. Simply put: Good hounds-males and females. from good hounds, from good litters of good hounds. If the dogs you use have a lot in common in how they go hunting and tree Coon and share many of the same ancestors, again you increase the probability of producing better hounds and better litters. It cannot be just on paper. Each generation has to be able to do it!
Joleen and Alice are littermates and both are reproducing some nice hounds. I am comfortable working with line bred Jet hounds because I know more about them. We are blessed with many good lines of Blueticks for a man to follow. I am excited about 3 females out of Jet V and my line bred Jet female Lucy ( a dual grand female that finished very easily). These females are making solid hounds and hopefully will reproduce their likeness in the future.
Enjoyed your post, good luck everybody!
