**UKC Nite Hunt question**
Four dog cast: Two dogs trailing separately and two dogs running together. The concern of the two running dogs was they were heading towards a busy highway. One of the trailing dog's handler treed his dog. The two running dogs were getting closer to the highway. The question was whether to go score the tree or go retrieve the dogs nearing the highway. The hunting judge gave the scorecard to another handler and said he was withdrawing his dog and going to get him from the highway. Second handler of dog in danger felt he had no other choice and did the same. Treed dog was scored and won the hunt. I thought timeout was in order because of dogs in danger and the treed dog's points would get deleted.
Just curious what others think.
The treed dogs points are not deleted by calling timeout, they must be scored if the dog was treed before timeout was called.

I went back and read under the Rule 5 Circled And Deleted Points (f) and it says under Deleted points (f) If judge has to call time out in accordance with Rule 7. Rule 7 Time Outs, Judge or majority of cast if hunting judge is used, may call time out in accordance with the following:
a) When dogs are getting on highway
Thanks Jim
In your post, you said that the handlers of the two dogs headed to the road, elected to withdraw there dogs and go get them. And he past over the judging duties. So by doing so, there is no need to call time out. When they withdraw they were no longer a part of the cast and the treed dog was not in any danger. No need for a timeout.

The hunting judge elected to withdraw his dog. Second handler (me) asked if there was any other options other than withdrawing. I was told the treed dog has to be scored first and then timeout could be called. There was also a dog still out trailing (not in danger). Do we have to wait on him to tree as well?
I'm not upset over it, all the dogs are safe. But it was 3 hours of driving to hunt and still plenty of time remaining in the hunt. I appreciate everyone's input.
not sure i understand the question fully but my opinion is this. If the handler treed his dog before the decision was made to get dogs away from highway then the tree has to be scored. If this happens before or after the dogs are caught im not sure but common sense would tell me that the handler go handle his dog and wait for the rest of the cast to come back to his tree. And i believe Lovis that no matter if the dogs are withdrawn or not the handlers are still considered part of the cast but not the dogs as long as the handlers want to return after catching their dogs. Maybe the reason the judge said to withdraw his dog is because he couldnt call time out with a dog declared treed. not sure jmo

Wheather or not tiomeout was called makes no difference, anytime a dog is treed while the clock is running the tree gets scored.
Once the handler treed his dog you could have asked for a vote to call timeout, collect the dogs and score the tree.

sorry forgot to type part of my reply. not sure if timeout could be called after the five is up on the tree. sounds like it was just an unfortunate situation that happens sometimes. not sure how the tree would be scored without a majority vote. for me personally i would have been more concerned for all the dogs safety than anything else. theres always another night not and my dogs meen more to me than a win slip.

Its one of those nights I'm glad I wasn't the judge. I know the majority says the tree must be scored and I can go with that. (where does the trailing dog come into play on scoring). But reading the deleting points, and the time out rules, I read it to say call time out and delete the tree dog points and the trailing dog's points.
Thanks for all the replies.
@ Dan D......we had been discussing for several minutes that the dogs were heading to a highway and we would need to go retrieve them soon. Then that dog was called treed. Thanks Dan
If time out had not been called prior to the dog treeing, in my opinion you must score the treeing dogs tree. If not, when a person's dog trees away from the other dogs people will start claiming their dogs are in danger, call time out so whoever's dog treed couldn't be scored.

The fact of just saying the dogs were in danger was NOT the case. It was clearly seen on 2 GPS systems that 2 dogs were nearing the hwy. I just haven't read anywhere where it says a tree "has" to be scored. But I'm ok with that. I'm only reading what the deleted points and timeout section says. Thanks gentleman.
Oh yeah, there's still a trailing dog out there that's not in danger. Is he treated differently because he's not a treed dog? just asking

I think Lovis explained the answer in full.

Thanks Chall123. I'll read that. MOH did announce he is not required to read telemetry rule any longer, just post it.
Yes sir he explained it the way it happened and we were aware of what we were doing by withdrawing. I just didn't know what other options we had, so the next day I started doing a little reading on it (without trying to read between the lines). I'm glad the guy's dog got scored.
Did yall not ask to call time out? You could have called time. Got your dogs and then scored treed. If a majority agreed to the timeout. Take a sorry rascal to not agree to it if a dogs about to get in a road. If they didn't. Id remember that name forever

Dogs declared treed within hunting time are eligible for scoring. That includes situations where time out is called due to hwy etc.. Any dog declared treed prior to calling time out will be scored. It's not an option to delete or circle points and handle them.
Time out was not called. It all happened pretty quick. After the judge withdrew his dog I asked if there was any other options and nobody said anything. So I withdrew as well and we caught the dogs along the side of the highway. I appreciate everyone's input and hopefully it doesn't happen again.
The treed dog that's being talked about was my dog and there was never a vote to call timeout. Mr. Harry was quite a gentleman the entire time during all of this and I'd like to thank him for that.I hate the way it happened. Hope we'll get to hunt together again soon.

Hey man. I'm glad you got to score that tree. Ashley came over and hunted with me last night. I just wanted to throw that question out and see what the consensus was. Maybe you should put the tree question on here. lol. Congrats to you!!!!!!!
Thanks for the kind words.
