The corn field races have officially started!

Been treeing around the edge of the Corn fields for the past couple weeks and finding freshly stripped corn cobs at the base of trees but had not had any good races in the fields....till this weekend. Boy did we get after some
Sure get the adrenaline pumping as you listen to a young dog running full tilt to catch one in a corn field! For the next month or so its going to be fast and furious in my neck of the woods

Been dropping the pups at the edges of corn fields lately with good results. I haven't had that smoking hot foot race yet, but I've been well pleased with both pups performance so far.

Races have been weird here

We have been having a lot of cloudy humid weather here in Iowa. I don't know if that has had anything to do with it or not, but it seems like we can have a smokin' hot race in the field and when the dogs try to take the track out into the grass, the track just vaporizes. Happened Friday night with a gentle haze after a shower and then again last night.

Cut loose in the morning between 6/8 most times they can run until 10/noon.

I believe it. I leave for work about 6:30 and have about 10 miles to drive. Usually take the back way. Usually see at least one coon a morning and they are usually heading into a corn field.

Around here all the old guys with the little short legged walkers are turning loose in the mornings and having some great races but they never seem to tree. When the temp starts getting hot they just pick them up and go home.

We had 2 great cornfield races a couple of weeks ago in the comp hunt where Link got his 2nd place.

Went up to Mo. and hunted with Stan Morris and we wound up makeing two trees at the edge of a corn field real quick. Looked at four coon,a sow and three little ones.

I was up in Indiana Tuesday night and their corn is way behind. It isn't near ready. We struck along the edge but never got out into it. I did get to hear a "bean field crawl" though. Finally just called the dogs out of it. I think that they were as glad to come out of it as we were to get them out. I hope that the corn does a lot of maturing before AO.

Southern Indiana is a lot different than northern Indiana. It can get pretty hilly down there and they have fewer crops than we have ...but more woods.
The corn is milky and the coons are getting fat on it up here....but thats about three hours further north than where you were.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with Bean field crawls. The beans here are waist high, doesn't take long to get a dog hot.

I was only an hour from Richmond. It was flat and they had plenty of fields but the corn wasn't anywhere near ripe. They are going to have a good crop of corn and beans once they mature. The bean fields are tall and very thick. They have had just enough rain this year. They had so much early in the year, they were late getting a lot of it planted.

Shane or corn fields are few and not very big 10 to 20 acres but this race did start in a corn field so does that count one lap in the corn threw the drain culvert under the road which was big enough for the dogs to go in but to small to get out on the other end which totally blew to 2 young dogs mind because it was red hot but Sam being the vetern she is came back out and crossed the road and drove the track in the mountain about 700 yards but this really worked on the young dogs because as she was driving the track away they only got more excited but keep trying to get out of the small end oh well the joys of hunting young stuff

corn fields

We had a tree the other night had 3 kittens in it! Pulled her off that and she opened in the corn about 200 yds and worked for 20 minutes and treed! I live in central indiana New Palestine area and corn is ready for coons!!!
